lol hey taking it through the paper glasses didn't work as poorly as i thought

but it seems imgur is absolutely crushing the image (taken with a sony a7iii, it is not this bad quality), and they don't accept HEIC/AVIF uploads anymore. hmm

that was kinda neat. i wasn't able to see the sun at all but it was dark enough to see stars through a few holes in the clouds so that was cool. neighbors set off a bunch of fireworks and freaked out my dog, so that part wasn't very cool

I hadn't anticipated everybody's outdoor lights turning on because it got so dark. That was pretty fun.

yeah the lights coming on was cool, the dimming felt like an led because the colour temp was so cold as it dimmed.

got to see it at 65% coverage out here. was pretty neat, not so much in the sun itself but the way everything around got just a little bit darker & colder in an eerie "did i make that up in my head" kinda way

i hope i get a chance to see totality before i croak, tho, because this is sick

We got about 90% in deecee and it was noticeably dimmer and cooler for about 20 minutes before and after. i had my solar binoculars from 2017 and they were good for looking though not so much for pix.

i didn't expect to see a dramatic 360 degrees sunset, that was neat. like the whole horizon was a beautiful sunset, bright red clouds in the distance with stars and poo poo in the sky.

also didn't expect to see a solar prominence, that was the red spot on the bottom of the moon's edge.

it cannot be understated how insane and fantastic this was. drat. dare i say i was moved by it

i guess what makes totality totality is that after totality starts you can take off your special glasses and there's just this giant loving black orb in the sky, something that cameras really can't get a good picture of, and it's just dark blue and cool quiet and windy with this loving huge vantablack orb surrounded by bright white corona, just like what the gently caress

having seen partial in 2017, partial, while neat, is nothing to 100% and recommend seeing it at some point. holy cripes

Agreed all around. Not possible to overstate how much cooler totality is than 99% coverage.

I’m already looking at my next vacation. Totality or bust.

08/12/2026 Total 2 min 18 sec 1.039 Arctic, eastern Greenland, Iceland, northern Spain
08/02/2027 Total 6 min 23 sec 1.079 Central Atlantic, Mediterranean region, Egypt, Red Sea area
