The price of meat has just gone up, and your old lady has just gone down

Yeah it was weird hitting my 20 years, I kinda marked it but kinda didn't. When I was reflecting on it, it was hard not to think about the fact when I started at SA it was because of the reputation for humor the place had, and the funny front page articles. It's weird these many years later thinking about it all. Now Lowtax has been gone since 2021, and his reputation was mainly infamy before he passed, few of us left from the 2000s and fewer still from '99, and when I try to think of what Something Awful did over the years I don't know if it's positive or negative overall. I dunno if I need to try to think of it in those terms, though. It's just been a place to be, a little bit of identity all along.

I started browsing SA when I was like 13 years old, using an AMD K6-II PC my grandma bought. Would have been back in 1999-2000, lurking as they called it then. Way I remember it, I spent a the first two years I was visiting SA regularly being amused by the front page and then got into the forums, thought they were even funnier, then paid for a new forum account in Diablo II runes because I didn't have a paypal or anything like that but I had made a friend on USEAST server who was a member here. Been a long road since, but I keep coming back here now and then, glad it's still around and has shed the baggage of the founder to become its own thing. Always was its own thing really. I got a break into the gear review gig and music gear industry generally right here on these forums in 2008. That's a trip to think about. I guess it could have gone a lot of different ways, but it didn't. I'm part of the generation that grew up as the Internet did, from AOL in the '90s on 'til now. Part of my lens to it all did involve SA, and forum culture generally, product of my era I guess :)

Cheers to all you other old motherfuckers out there. Thanks for the good times, thanks for the help along the way. Thanks for the support and a place to hang out online. I hope you're all doing well, the ones who are and the ones who aren't here anymore.

A legend.

Good to see you after a long time.

I think this place brought together people who would have never met otherwise. I have met several goons IRL and while it was always awkard and wierd it was overall positive.

I definitely had help in my music career here as strange as that sounds it worked into my clothing career etc.

A strange cross section of nerds. Shoutout to the real ones.

e: when you said Lowtax has been gone, i thought you meant like he sold the website or got another job drat. I remixed one of his techno songs into drum and bass one time and he hated it. Rest in peace to the god father.

Shall we be trotting home again?
I appreciate your posts & music, and am also going to use your thread as another place to say RIP Epileper, who also would have been a 20+ year veteran at this point.

I guess my number is up this summer!
