So my family has a couple of books it's passed down through the decades. A family bible from the 1800s from my mom's dad's side, a dictionary from the 30s from someone, but also a very special book: Library Of Health, by Frank Scholl. Copyright 1916, this is a 20 books in 1 volume edition on diseases, their causes, how to prevent them, and how to cure them. From syphilis to gonorrhea, to ulcers, to liver disease, Frank has a way to treat them. Why, if you've got lip ulcers or abscesses, just apply some silver! As far as I can tell, this is an actual 1916 edition, as there are editions from the 1920s that are labeled as such (like "1921 Edition"), and that is nowhere to be found in this. Only "Copyright 1916". Some googling also shows that the 1916 edition is this green/black spine, like I have. But the real gold is the end of the book (which is over 1700 pages.) Starting at page 1709, Frank goes into the mystical (yet scientific) self defense art of Jiu-Jitsu. Spending a few pages just talking about it, the real cream of this crop is the pictures. You see, Frank has included picture how-tos of various self defense moves, to show you the ultimate power of Jiu-Jitsu! I've scanned them into the internet, so that you too may learn these techniques, to protect yourself in your everyday life. So please enjoy! thank you for posting these. quite amusing. i like that first move of "Eh just pinch the poo poo out of their nose, it hurts like hell" i guess he went to the 3 stooges jiu-jitsu school. Those look like some legit grabs, locks, etc. But there is absolutely no footwork being shown. Which maybe that was in volume 2 or something, but drat dude, you gotta move your feet. Modern Jiu-Jitsu students/teachers are terrifying.

Thanks for cleaning those up. There's some more jiujitsu to scan, having brunch with my mom right now then back home to the book. Mom isn't sure where the book is from. She thinks it's something her mom's side would own tho
