did Wasteland 3 fix the Wasteland 2 issue (common to a lot of the older CRPGs) where there were like eleven jillion identical skills and you just couldn't know how to cover them, plus Toaster Repair which was just "lockpick, but gimmicky"

Toaster Repair was in the original Wasteland too though, so I kind of hope they kept it in there.

I think the only place you could train in it was at the guardian citadel though

Yeah, it was a good callback, they just... like, in the original it was a goofy fun thing, in 2 the toasters just had loot that could have been in safes and vice versa so it was just "here's another lockpick skill good luck fuckers" (also good to hear W3 pulled back on that, I will likely pick it up at some point)

Toaster repair is what made me realise the game wasn't for me. That and just being sick of ability scores in RPGs.

Toaster repair is completely inessential, it just gets you fun things sometimes. So far all I've seen from it is some decent value vendor trash and tokens that have a chance of giving you minor perks

The trick to playing Wasteland 2 was to ignore one 'lockpick' type skill of each type and just deal with it. If you try to level all of them, you end up short on each and miss things anyway, whereas if you skip one, at least you know for sure that you aren't going to get through that safe or whatever.

There were indeed too many skills but that was the way to deal with it, rather than the stress of "I need one more level in Dick Suckin', how can I get x amount of XP real quick before I get point-of-no-return'ed", just say "welp, that dick ain't gettin' sucked"

One of the biggest improvements in the new one is they ditched the stupid percentage chance to succeed thing, no more "oh man I've got a 63% chance to suck this dick and a 32% chance it'll fall off" it's now just you can or you can't

Yeah I think you get an energy pack and a ... Nova key?? I don't remember but it wasn't plot necessary. I think it was like a skill to give people something to do after beating the game lol

Does 2 or 3 have Brian fargo references like the first one and the first couple fallouts had, is what I'd like to know

3 should have a paragraph book lol

Handy fact: the petroleum industry has spent a lot of money on making you believe that plastics are recyclable. They aren't, and most plastics (other thank milk jugs and soda bottles) sent to recycling get landfilled.

I was surprised when recently our local trash company sent out fliers basically telling people to stop putting plastic in the recycling because it’s not recyclable. This article explains a lot.

dont we just send almost all of our recyclables (outside of aluminum) on boats to china anyway?

we used to! and then China said they didn't want it anymore, so now it all ends up in the trash.

one of the main problems is our single-stream recycling practices. it's very costly to try and separate plastic-1 and plastic-2 and etc. it's also not very cost-effective to try and recycle plastic in the first place because it breaks down each time you reuse it and it's always cheaper to just make new plastic and people don't care about the environmental impacts because they've all been told that it's recyclable.
