The first time she said it was when the camera was focusing on a pile of corpses behind her, so yes, that is the joke.

I'm so out of the loop on anime that it's probably been 15 years since I watched anything new that wasn't a remake or reboot like Berserk or Eva., Somehow I got linked to an article about this show and God dammit if I haven't fallen in love with from episode 1. Now to track down as much of the manga as I can.

The manga is on Shonen Jump's app as well as Manga Plus.

:same: This thread actually convinced me to hold off on the manga since it sounds like the anime is actually doing a really good job at adapting and even expanding on stuff. I'll probably binge the manga once the season is up.

My one complaint with the anime so far is that when someone gets punched in the face you don't get to savor the impact the way you do in the manga. Tatsuya Endo has a way of drawing faces deforming that's incredibly satisfying.

For what it's worth, having read the manga up to this point, the Anime is still a great experience. It's adding a whole lot of positives to an already great premise and series.

I'll second this. I started watching the anime purely to get my girlfriend into the story since she isn't a big manga reader but I'm enjoying this a lot, so far it's been an improvement over an already great series.

I was spoiled on smug Anya but regardless the anime didn't disappoint. :allears:

If I've got one nitpicky complaint, it's that Anya is now firmly in school and doing her mind reading shenanigans, and Loid's constantly getting new spy poo poo to do, but Yor's not gotten any assassinations. Yeah she does cool poo poo every episode and her interactions with Anya are adorable but like, the whole reason she agreed to this arrangement was so she could have a cover for her job as an assassin but we haven't seen her do that since her intro. I really hope this is just a temporary lull and not some "now that she's a main character she can't kill anybody" bs.

I imagine it's because her "brother" (who I have to assume is actually her handler who she just thinks is her brother) hasn't met Loid yet and wants to give her time to settle down with her husband like a support've brother before giving her more work to do.

The answer to that involves spoilers, obviously. As such: [slight spoilers regarding the season's likely direction and manga in general, without giving any real detail] if the anime ends where it seems likely to end, then there won't be a huge amount of assassination work during the season for Yor, but there will be at least one episode that involves the outcome of an assassination she does right at the start of the episode. She doesn't do a huge amount of assassination work so far in the manga at all really, and only one arc that'd be 2 or 3 seasons into the show really focuses on her as an assassin, but the manga also never portrays it like she can't or won't kill anymore by any stretch either. What assassination she does is more of a background or setup for story lines generally, and not a central focus.

Her brother is her brother, he is much younger than her, He is very powerful due to having survived being raised by Yor.

It takes a while before you get a lot of assassination stuff for Yor but she does get basically one of the longest arcs in the manga dedicated almost exclusively to her so it isn't forgotten either. I don't think it's a spoiler to say that no, Yor has not suddenly stopped the murders.

I imagine part of it is that it's a bit easier to make funny jokes out of spy stuff and mind reading than it is violent assassination.

I don't know that it'd be inconsistent in the kind of society the story takes place in really, but it is almost certainly less varied than spy work at the very least. Assassination missions are basically always going to be some variation of "go to the place, kill the guy", where spy missions can encompass a wider variety of things. Plus, at the end of the day, Loid is the main character and Yor isn't even the second main character (which is Anya); so Yor will always come in third place in terms of serving her narrative.

I don't think so, since the story starts from Loid's perspective and when they share scenes he's usually the point of view character. Plus, the main thrust of the story is his goal, and he's better placed to exposit things to the audience about the setting than Anya is too. Anya exists to throw a curve ball into his plans, to change his character, to make him question what his mission is etc. Not the other way around.

Yeah at least so far Loid is pretty clearly the main character with Anya and Yor being more deuteragonists. I am kinda hoping Anya's school stuff will push her up in the limelight a bit though.

Appreciate all the replies wrt Yor. This definitely isn't anything I'm gonna be too hung up about - like I said it's a minor nitpick. I just think it would be cool if we also got to see her do her job as well.
