I'm not worried about the bears because they will never win another Super Bowl. I just want them to have a passing game for one or even two seasons. And for the packers to end up in QB hell.

Broke rear end McCaskeys realized they might not get money and tax breaks from Cook County so they’re pretending they might actually go to Naperville instead https://twitter.com/kpowell720/status/1664710862362296321 Feels like you don’t really have that much leverage when you play this card after investing $200m to buy the Arlington Heights site, but what do I know

I'm excited for the Bears to put their new stadium where Naperville has a diverging diamond offramp and have absolutely furious and enraged fans screaming on 670 the score about it while they're driving the wrong way through it

I flew from the UK for two Lions games over Thanksgiving in 2013. The Packers were the opponents on Thanksgiving, but they didn't have Rodgers so the Lions shellacked them 40-10. At some point in the fourth quarter when the game was out of hand, a Packers fan in a jersey and hard hat (?) lifted up the sleeve of his jersey, flexed his muscles and kissed a tattoo of the Lombardi trophy which had the Packers wins numbered below it. I found it genuinely hilarious

Of course they weren't. I just remember a press conference where they asked Rahm about some report that the Ricketts were talking with Rosemont and he literally laughed out loud. I know it was never a serious consideration but I do think the Ricketts put out some stories to try and scare the city. Those racist Ricketts e-mails that were leaked to Gawker back in the day talked about it if I remember correctly. They were always staying at Wrigley because you can fill that park up even with 70 win teams.

Yeah, he did said it once that he was considering it, Rahm and literally every alderperson laughed, because he'd spent like the past 3 years talking about how much he loved wrigley and would never leave, and they knew he wasn't about that life. They did leak/say it, but no one respected it because like Rosmont's mayor like never even got a cursory conversation about it or whatever.

I’m gonna throw an idea out there. Tell me if it’s too extreme or not. Underground Bears Stadium & Entertainment Complex Never again shall weather interfere with a Bears game. The stadium will be 300 feet under the Earth in a climate controlled reinforced titanium sphere. Huge freight elevators will deliver fans to the games. The ground level is just a series of parking decks and an enormous series of Colossus of Rhodes-style statues of Bears greats.

They could theoretically sell off the land but nobody’s going to have the same desire to buy the entire thing in one fell swoop and value it as highly as the Bears did, and I don’t know that the McCaskeys have the cash flow to let the Arlington site sit in limbo while they go through the process of acquiring a *second* stadium site in a place where land is gonna be way harder to come by. Even if they can afford it, any remotely feasible site in Naperville is probably going to be way worse logistically than Arlington Park (which they probably don’t give a poo poo about) and won’t let them pursue their fantasy of having a cash cow commercial district around the stadium (which they absolutely would care about)

Yea I give the bears like a 1% chance of moving on from Arlington. Maybe if Naperville or wherever decided to give them a shitload of land for free, but I don’t see that happening. They’re just trying to get relief from Arlington, and I hope they just tell the bears to pound sand.

Don't kid yourself. Arlington Park is going to be a logistics nightmare. 53 cannot handle stadium traffic. Although I'm not sure 88 will be much better. As for the price they spent, I really doubt they went above market value to purchase the property. They spent about 600k per acre. Pretty sure a home on half an acre would cost that. Just a quick look at houses for sale in Palatine/Rolling Meadows/Arlington Heights shows that what they paid is what it is worth. The assessors absolutely nailed the valuation and the Bears had to know what the value was. They're just trying to get concessions. But if they don't get concessions, they still have a valuable piece of property that will only go up in value.
