Dig a trench underneath the house and port the air intake for the heat pump through it. Would redirecting the intake on a unit not intended for that cause undue wear on the fan motor? I'll be honest with you, yes. Would it pull dirt inside, further accelarating the unit's maintenance and replacement timetables? Of course. However would it allow you to get the maximum functionality out of the unit for the time it does survive? Almost certainly not, surprisingly. I feel like it checks all the boxes.

Is it an exhaust air heat pump or a regular one? If the former, it can work more easily in a confined space.

I've also ordered my internet connection. So you do it through whatever internet company you like and they talk to BT Openreach who have to come out and perform the actual connection. Its Fibre to the premises. So openreach have sent me a text and no worries theyre coming in two weeks to do it. Hmmm. 1. youre not drilling any small holes in my building 2. not sure a guy with a drill is really going to cut it I have laid conduit from under the front wall by the access from the pavement at the streetside all the way round the drive, through a data box in the ground and then on to the end of the house where the garage is. This is all buried and has a drawstring in it. Its completely buried at the road end. The tarmac pavement will have to be dug up to find it, and then dug back across the pub carpark entrance way to the telegraph post in front of the pub which has the internet on it. The pub uses its car park every day for however many customers/deliveries etc, so they will need to be negotiated with them. Then when you get to the house I've put conduit up the side to the eaves, under the cladding which then goes across the carport ceiling, penetrates the building proper and runs the full length of the loft in one of the triangular access runs before coming out of a socket into the cupboard area at the far end of the loft with the data cabinet in. Its probably a couple 100m of fibre. So... presumably BT openreach has all this written down somewhere and arent actually just going to send a guy out with a drill on the day? Anyway. I replied YES

Just imagining the guy turning up before you get there and drilling the hole, and the house just deflates and flies around making that sad farting sound. E: in seriousness, have you asked to be put through to a supervisor? Someone with more authority might have more idea what to do than the trainee running off a flowchart where every option points to either 'drill a hole in the wall' or 'arrange another appointment so someone else can drill a hole in the wall.' Realistically, if the guy shows up early he is going to drill several preemptive holes so that he can run the wire through whichever location you prefer when you arrive.

A guy with a drill will show and then hopefully have the right back office connection to summon the crew with the excavators, or at least tell you the secret methods for causing them to be summoned.

They are totally going to send a guy with a drill who will have zero notes on the site because sales don’t share anything you tell them with the engineers. He will show up and then ring his supervisor because he can’t do anything. The supervisor will either add some useful internal notes to the call and make the right thing happen - or alternatively you will just go back to the start and the same will happen again. They sent a residential install engineer to my prison building site the other day even after I told them they would need to come supply me with detailed RAMS and do a site induction before any works…..

It wouldn't be the first contractor to lay cable on-site.

I have one of those that I still need to get my landlord to agree to. From what I understand, they want to put in a box that will go roughly where the current phone master socket is, but they also want it within 1m of a plug socket because that's the longest power cable they want to supply. Of course, the master socket in my house is nowhere near a plug socket (it's presumably in the same place as when the house was built in the 70s), so I have no clue where to put the thing and where they would drill said hole. But they are REALLY loving keen to install it, determined that I don't cancel the thing because I'm not interested in dealing with that bullshit right now. I assume there's some network they're trying to decommission. There are some stories out there about the quality of their contractors "making good" after the installations as well. You gotta watch them like a hawk apparently.

Yeah, there's got to be zero chance that anything useful happens on this first go-round, or probably the next 3 either. They're definitely assuming that there's some fibre distribution box on a pole in a straight-line of like 20 feet that they'll just string through the air and stick through a hole anywhere they feel like and then it's your problem. Telecoms aren't prepared for techno-wizardry like "conduit" or "data cabinet" in residential installs.

My fibre installation required 4 cable runs, 1 of which was through broken conduit in the street. Original guy from the first isp said he wouldn't do it and left, so we hired a guy ourselves to sort out the first two runs (in our like 3m front garden). Original isp still wouldn't send another guy for like 2 months so we switched isp to get someone faster - he then discovered that the cabling in the street was also a cluster gently caress but was really nice and hung around to sort it out. Anyway that's my fibre installation story.

Right. Its freezing cold every day and this is all horrible. more horrible So Im deciding to spend time in the bathrooms during the day... I'm also plotting heatpump heating scenarios.... and ordering but need to work during the day. Primed the walls and floor of bathroom with a special acrylic primer. Because you can never just do the thing. You've always gotta go spend money on something special. Also I need to absolutely make sure all this plumbing is gonna work as its gonna get built in takes like 5 goes. Its dogshit. They say the hep2o connectors are perfect and never fail and yeah sure they seem great. Then you have to connect into the toilet cistern and its a plastic screw tap to deal with?!?! wtf?!?! Just loving make the toilets be hep2o Anyway. Nice jackson pollock shitstorm incase anyone ever opens this cabinet up. Tape up back of room for watertightness I'll do more of the rest of the room later maybe. Wait and see what I've got left over. then paint on tanking plastic paint stuff hmmm. Whats stopping me from doing the rest of the bathrooms is not knowing exactly what I'm doing for it all. the plan and delivered today. very cheap needs cutting up but gently caress, its really heavy... maybe I can make it smaller? nope. the sinks I've bought are pretty big. Just gonna have to see if it works I guess

Do you care if they join up beautifully or have a huge gap? What I would do is not do that because my experience is that it never quite lines up right because cutting a long 45.00 degree edge is hard and it is much easier to do like a rebate or butt joint and then put a face frame with lovely little miters on it to look nice on the end.

There is no loving way that sink frame will stay in place without something supporting it at the front. Also, why hide the plumbing and make it totally impossible to maintain?
|
# ? Dec 2, 2023 12:03 |

i think it will stay in place. And hide the plumbing because its ugly. it wont need maintenance as it will be expertly fitted in the first place.
