I'm sure adding another no finish player will turn it around for the Pens. At least he was a bonafide NHL player unlike the dross they've been trotting out for the last 2+ weeks. I'm sure Jansen Harkins will be chipping in with points any day now...... Anyways Pens have hit the iceberg and the compartments are all filling. Just shuffle those deck chairs and can someone strike up the band. We're going to the bottom baby.

PA ain't gonna say poo poo because it's the difference between getting your full contract paid out or settling for a buyout at 2/3rds And teams aren't gonna say poo poo because LTIRetirement is better than the lovely current system. If they just agreed to honor contracts after retirement but not count them against the cap they wouldn't have to get cutesy and they could work around mid season shenanigans at the same time

That story isn’t even that shady, health is a spectrum and most professional athletes develop some sort of permanent damage/injury through their career. The choice to play through it, get major invasive surgery, or retire comes down to preference and context. In Tootoo’s case he did have a bad shoulder, told the club and they confirmed it through MRI. Sure he had been managing it, and could have decided to keep playing, but no doctor is going to support forcing someone with any kind of damage to keep going so it’s easy to get a diagnosis if a player wants one. Doesn’t mean he’s lying about his health, just means that what the public thinks of as healthy vs. injured is not actually binary in the real world.

Surely LTIR cheating is only when you IR a person for the season and then bring them back the moment the postseason starts and the cap stops, a la Stone and Kucherov? Robidas island is broadly fine and serves to ensure people get paid as the poster above says

I think the problem with changing it is that this way keeps players able to come back on the same contract if they decide they do feel good enough to leave the island. I can’t think of a way to punish the LTIR cheating while keeping Robidas island a potential two way road either.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure any top tier pro athlete could go into any normal doctors office to get a physical and the doc would find some sort of knee/elbow/shoulder damage where they'd sign off on at the very least reduced physical activity or rehab if not outright telling them to stop using that part if they are using regular patient standards. No lies or even embellishments needed, just to get to the NHL level, dudes are pushing their bodies beyond what it's supposed to handle.

He seems to defer to Strome a good bit at 5v5 who has scored a bunch. It feels like the Caps PP wants the theoretically high-danger chances you get from stacking 3 guys in the royal road and ping-pong passes out from behind the net, but they're not using any movement to clear out coverage there so everything just gets clogged up. There may not be any movement because the system isn't asking for it or maybe everyone but Strome is too old and slow to do it, but either way you'd think just going back to trying to feed cross-ice passes to Ovie is the better option both for the PP and for his attempt at the record - win-win. Just seems like a bizarre choice to keep banging what's not working at all. They probably want to get it going sooner than later, too, because Ovie can still pass and shoot as well as anyone, but he has cement skates and is slow as hell to react to loose pucks so he's probably not gonna go on a long heater at 5-on-5 to bring up those numbers.
