the immediate joke of bravern is pretty obviously just playing with the contrast between the relatively grounded and serious world the existing cast are used to with bravern being a guy straight out of, a braves series show. he's an extremely earnest funny robot man crashing into someone else's mecha anime to save them from a threat they couldn't possibly protect themselves from otherwise. any twist about him being evil would be silly, bravern's sudden appearance and isami's reaction is more setting up how the show is going to explore the clash of these different ends of mecha and how the characters respond to it

Southern Cassowary posted:a sign of affection continues to majorly own for much the same reasons as last week. the scene where oushi and yuki talk in sign language is such a burner - it's a really cool piece of animation and they effectively use the way oushi talks in sign to convey a lot about his character the body language in general in this show is fascinating. i really like paying attention to peoples movements when they are out of yuki's line of sight, because it ends up creating these very personal moments between the viewer and the character. kind of like a physical monologue i guess

the direction continues to be good in sign of affection. i like how the outdoor scenes are a bunch of shots pointed at the sky mixed in with lingering moments of giant spaces surrounding tiny bodies. dear itsuomi, please help yuki find this big beautiful world.

Villainess lvl 99 has that in common with Bravern in that they both pull a funny little trick on their audience but have their trick be extremely obvious from the title alone. Oh well no matter I had fun and will be watching them.

the head patting is a bit weird but he seems like the kind of guy whos just like that in general. he ties it into her deafness a bit but he also seems like the kinda guy whos sort of forward and acts without really thinking, its an illustration that he isnt really treating her differently.

And come on, look at the guy. He has supermodel looks (so does everyone in this show..) and he travels all over the place often so probably has some money. Its a prime catch. Still enjoying It's Time for "Torture". The first real "torture" in the series. I do like the enhancements they've been making. Many of the jokes are fundamentally the same between torturers but it's fun and light and sometimes that's all that's needed.

Anyone else watching High Card? I started watching it more as a substitute for Bungou Stray Dogs than because of its actual merit, but by now I'm actually pretty interested in it. I like that Chris is actually facing consequences for the X-Hand thing. There were hints fairly early on that Theodore and the royal family aren't really good guys, which are getting more and more overt. I'm curious what that will lead to in the end; will Fourlandia become a republic? I'm a little curious if there's going to be a third season; even taking into account the cards involved in the manga (and the LNs that will probably never get translated), there's still a lot of cards unrevealed. I might go back to it later in the season, but Bucchigiri is filling a similar niche much more effectively at the moment

Second episode of Torture Princess was also amusing. The more I see the more it feels like the Third Imperial Legion were the aggressors against a relatively benign Hellhorde and the princess did her fighting more out of obligation than desire. It's got good comedic timing and animation which help carry the jokes even when you see the setup coming a mile away. Ex sitting in a massage chair and hearing his voice vibrate was a good bit.
