He is the most frequently cited potential former ref as he went on to have an office job after. It could theoretically be any former ref but it comes down to which ref people think would be a Vince guy.

ghb, depending on dosage, can act a bit like booze in that it makes you feel good but can absolutely knock you out if you take too much. unlike booze, it causes your body to release more growth hormone.

people who take it on purpose do so to get bigger muscles or have a good time. people who give it to people who don't know they're taking it may be doing so with the intention of knocking them out for very bad reasons

X-Pac said in his YouShoot interview that everyone stocked-up on GHB in England before the infamous Plane Ride from Hell because it was something you could pick up in health food stores at the time.

I mean, there was other poo poo going on (like them killing three liquor carts before take-off) but, yeah, it can be used for bad reasons and was in 2002.

Honestly didn’t expect Laurinaitis to sing like a bird but boy is this reallllllll bad for Vince.

It's not a huge surprise. I can't imagine he's worth more than a couple million at the very most and had no real future prospects before this. Any kind of defense and/or settlement would run the risk of bankrupting him. His only real options were to hope that Vince took care of his legal fees or make it clear that he's willing to flip and name names on camera and/or under oath. That Laurinitis' lawyer made such a public statement means the former hasn't happened, at least yet.

Laurinitis and WWE have every interest in settling as quickly and quietly as possible and pointing the fingers at Vince and Vince alone. I know goons are standing outside Titan Towers with cans of gas and handfuls of matches but it wouldn't surprise me if all this led to a handful of quiet resignations and retirements that were most likely planned on post merger and TV deal. It may reduce some golden parachutes but they'll still deploy.

Highly doubtful, given the lack of criminal complaints, the near-certainty that any physical evidence has been destroyed, and Connecticut's statute of limitations on these cases is ... fuzzy at best.

But Vince and his cronies are looking at a lot of civil liability.

The main surprise to me is exactly how public and unambiguous the statement was. This wasn't some "without prejudice" letter, this was a public statement that can be pointed to later on and which it's going to be real difficult to row back on, since it's essentially saying that all of this happened but the plaintiff has tragically misinterpreted poor widdle Johnny Ace's involvement.

It at the very least means Lauranitis can't simply play the "deny everything" card later on, and it makes it way, way harder for Vince to do the same. It feels like a concession it only makes sense to make if you are 100% convinced that the civil case is going to win and win big, and/or you have some reason to believe that more poo poo is going to come out which could land people in jail, and you want to establish yourself as a remorseful and potentially helpful witness ahead of the curve on that.

At the very least it pours petrol on the fire, which is the opposite of what you'd do if you think "quietly settle the civil suit and slink off into obscurity" was a viable option.
