It finally occurred to me to check if there's a LEGO thread! I'm glad there is! I've been getting back into LEGO because I have a nearly-three year old and she likes them a lot. Mostly she likes when I build things that have lots of stuff to open, close, pivot, claw arms for grabbing, stuff like that. I just finished up this guy: (well we all know these things are never really finished) https://imgur.com/a/2b2XyiQ I also have a few pictures of other things I've done recently I can summon up if anyone is interested. I'll be digging into the thread to see peoples' creations, I hope you guys do lots of spaceships.

1000 Brown M and Ms posted:Please share! Personally, I'm not really interested in sets and I'd much prefer seeing peoples MOCs. Yesss, love classic space stuff. Blacktron and Space Police were great. I had the big Explorien spaceship. I was also amused to see one of the first creations you posted being made from UFO parts. I got the second-largest UFO ship and had no idea what the gently caress to do with the big saucer pieces after I disassembled it. I use them for a spaceship every now and then, and once for a steampunk ironclad, but they're mostly big pieces that hang around in my LEGO bin. So, good work! I like your mechas a lot, too. Here's a piece I made last week that I really like, called The Interruption Unit.

Also, just for an idea of what to do with my very mixed themes; time traveller HQ! Bring back goods from other times, sell them to other times, profit! But I'll always thank Aquanauts for filling my bin with dozens of bright yellow pieces.

COMPAGNIE TOMMY posted:Aquanauts/Aquasharks seems like the start of overly specialized sets that don’t really fit into a main “overworld” theme- the adventures you were meant to have were too linear as far as good guys vs bad guys and the pieces don’t integrate well with the main themes unless you’re building a really eclectic MOC. LEGO was doing that over and over again for a while. Pogo Stick HEROES set 1: megapogo ($200) (two walls and a pogoship) set 2: pogo base ($125) (a wall, two small pogoships) set 3: encounter at pogo ($74) (stupid setpiece, one minipogo and one darkskater miniskater) set 4: minipogo ($40) (tiny vehicle, one minifig) DarkSkaters set 1: Darkskater mobile fort ($100) (like, one moulded piece on some wheels) set 2: DarkSkate interceptor ($75) (a ship that's mostly canopy and a grabber) Set 3: Darkskater Gang ($30) (some minifigs, two miniskates) Help the Pogo Stick heroes explore and find the rare Pogonium! But don't let the DarkSkaters get the Pogonium first!

Edit: actually, now that I look, it came with this guy: So where did my top hat and monocle guy come from...? Edit 2: Okay, monocle guy is from this: Still looking for top hat source. Sam Sinister, I think that may be the guy above, but he's in aviation gear because he was on a biplane. I must have had a second version of him? Or on second thought, the Time Twisters sets came with a few extra props from historical eras, perhaps it was from that. Oh LEGO bins. It's like archeology lite.

A brickwash might be a good idea, some of mine are still packed with modelling clay from my experimental single-digit years, which are rapidly approaching a quarter-century ago. Not much I can do about the gold paint pen on the "special" items, unless alcohol would take that off.

It's been so long since I build an official set, I can barely remember what it's like. My most memorable build was the Explorien Starship from back in the day, that beautiful white ship with its billion green antennae and its folding configurations. I remember how pretty much everything came together on one Technic rod trussing a two-stud-wide area in the middle. My "friend" Peter came over one day, picked it up, promptly dropped it. I gathered the pieces together as best I could, but somehow the thing never came together quite right again, in that weak spot, and it was eternally in the folded position and I wasn't a clever enough lad to figure out a solution. So disassembled and into the common bin it went.

A single stroll of the cat along the set will leave you with endless joy in regard to static charged cat-hair either on the set, the lens, you, or the cat you are currently trying to murder (which is impossible because a cat is basically like a wet piece of soap once confronted) That's like every time I go to use my gig bag I have to shoo a cat out of it and vacuum it. A big pirate ship, the big Space bases and ships, and the Forestmen bases were sets I always wanted and never got as a kid, so if Lego could keep supplying me with modernized versions of what I couldn’t get as a kid, I’d give them all my money. All the same ones I wanted. For some reason, the forest dudes were the ones the gift-givers in my life picked up on me liking the least so I have practically none in my bin, but I've always had a weird thing for Robin Hood themed stuff.

Every time I think I'm ready to photograph my space command center, another part is added. I was going to first photo it when it was just the command center proper, and then suddenly I added a laboratory. And then, a small robotics lab. Then a robotic claw crane. Then a garage, and a hover-vehicle to go in it. Now I'm working on a multi-antenna communications tower... The only thing that I think will stop me is when I run out of parts. The minifigs I assembled for them are becoming impatient, awaiting the command center in their blue baseplate void

Communications tower: Crane: The garage, with hover vehicle, Jack Placeholder, and you can see a portable hypersonic cleaner in the back there. Jack Placeholder! Who gave you clearance to use that hover vehicle?!? You're not even on the crew! A couple robots and weird tall white robotic alien, waiting for a place to work. As you may have been able to tell from my space command center, I LOVE workstations. I like imagining each of the little minifigs coming in and sitting at their usual place, or wandering over to a console to do a certain task... I got an amazing little frisson when I built that drill press because I had a strong vision of the roboticist drilling a robot chassis on it, and it felt REAL. These guys look like they're having a nice calm day at work.
