Well, to be fair, "well poo poo maybe Eren really should've won and murdered the entire world besides his race" is the perfect summation of how miserable, vaguely fascist, and pointless everything past the timeskip was in the series

I think the power of friendship protecting all the people who should be nowhere near the big fight is dumb and incredibly overplayed

but also there's 2 huge enemies involved now between All for One and Shigaraki, so I'm hoping the point is less that they wanna fight by Izuku's side (and realistically die) and more that there's a poo poo-ton of minions, subordinates, and an entire second evil antagonist in play that will overwhelm Deku without any kind of backup

Every single arc since the end of the war feels like it's speedrunning whatever was supposed to happen in it despite most of the individual plot beats and even some moments being great

the big problem with invisible girl being the traitor is the ludicrously bad pacing of this whole plot thread. I'd literally forgotten about it until reading this chapter and it felt like horikoshi did too. it doesn't feel like satisfying set up and pay off

Vigilante Deku - Good. Lady Nagant - Good. Deku vs Class 1-A - Great. It's just the Star fight that's causing people to meltdown. The current writing is totally fine in my estimation, I don't see how it compares negatively to any of the previous moments I mentioned.

I don't think this thread should really be taken as any kind of reflection on the manga's quality, it's pretty much 80% complaining at all times regardless of whats happening.

the little mini-arcs have all been solid-to-good in theory, I think, with the exception of star coming out of nowhere to weaken the bad guy and die

the problem is that we've been moving between them at so rapid a pace that there's no time for the implications of any given event to sink in or really have consequences

the pacing is ruining the impact of a lot of individually alright concepts

Since Deku is kind of boring and interchangeable in motivation with the other characters in his class, I don't think it would've hurt to build up the ensemble cast idea more by giving them all personal struggles over the course of three years.

Most of the cast aren’t remotely interesting enough for individual arcs to work

the quirk singularity should have been a way to introduce the idea of the tech singularity to the world in a fantasy way, and to explore what it might mean that there will come a point where quirks are strong enough enough to make predictions about the future useless

that woulda been neat as just a thing, less a negative and more just an eventuality
