Made a big collage of NPCs from FF12 over the weekend. Putting in spoilers because the final boss is on it. Biggest codpiece variety in gaming?

FFT feels very melancholy to me. Something about the sounds, the muted colors, the relatively subdued music for the random battles, it's always raining, the deaths are more intense because it's always stabs to the gut and stuff.

For FF7 and FF8, presumably there are many towns and settlements in between the ones you can visit marked on your map. Deling City is called the capital of Galbadia, but otherwise it's the only city in Galbadia. Crisis Core introduced a place near Mideel called Banora for instance.

FF9 characters make explicit mention of the fact that the rest of the world is pretty deserted though.

Made a couple FF Tactics maps. Two flavors with names depending on how nostalgic you want the translations (I've never played the WotL version but it seems way better namewise).

An FF8-style glow-up with some cleaned up framerates would be fine by me. Chrono Cross still pops in the art department.

Shorts like that were the style around the turn of the century. Zell definitely likes whatever the Galbadian ICP equivalent is.

More FFT stuff, trying to wrap my head around the plot now that I am using a more understandable translation. Matsuno plots sure have a tone don't they.

They need to put Old in FF7R-2 with super realistic aging-to-death progression for every party member.

Speaking of pixels, they are all just as handsome as i remember.

To get that Dagger image, i had a save file at the 40 minute mark so I let the emu run for 20 mins. But i forgot untli the last 10 seconds, quickly tabbed over and made a save state at xx:59:51 seconds. But talking to moogle was so slow, i couldn't save fast enough to beat xx:00:01 until I switched in an empty memory card - the .2 second speed increase in rendering save slot list was just enough to get the save at 00:00 and see the pic. So basically it was an optimized speedrun, from my save state, to dagger save pic [WR].

FF7 and 8 both presumably have many towns that don't appear on the map. Crisis Core had a Mideel-sister city for example, Banora iirc?

Esthar only put up their invisible wall 20 years ago, they are supposed to be isolationist and not generally allow visitors but prior to that it was just a country, not Wakanda or whatever. People know about them generally.

Doing some FF12 model extraction. So many cool weapon designs, and this is just "swords" (not "greatswords" or "dual-wielding judge weapons" or any of the other 300+ models).

So the general thinking is that Square is presenting this as a remake of FF1 with named characters for the party members, but the twist is that the four MCs become the four fiends/Garland that the actual party fights in FF1? Haven't been following it closely and didn't play the demo, mildly interested but it isn't totally clear what's official and what isn't.

Funny the topic came up, last week I checked my younger self's yahoo mail account for the first time in years and found a nice message from someone 2 years ago about an Azure Dreams guide a wrote for GameFAQs ~15 years ago. Felt bad I never responded so I sent them something. I'm still a sometimes GameFAQs/StrategyWiki contributor but I basically considering it releasing a little paper airplane into the void.

I finished mapping out Wild Arms yesterday. An interesting RPG that probably would've had a lot more love in the SNES era, or with more time before FF7 changed the landscape. It feels like FF6 or CT at times (you even visit a 2nd floating continent of magic people at one point) but with a strong melancholy/faded glory vibe. Would've liked to see it with FF6-esque 2D battle graphics, but the overworld layout is pretty interesting even though it's a bit over-designed maybe.

I love it, but yeah the battles and animations are ultra slow and clunky alongside FF7 which was just unbelievable the first time I saw the opening cutscene and battles in 1997.

I would guess they at least keep the parade minigame, Hojo at the beach, Mr. Dolphin, and Barret's sailor suit.

The impaled snake might get remixed so they actually see Seph kill it, and/or you kill it, and/or there are many of them.

Chocobo Farm seems like it could go? Choco Sam is a thing now and presuming the world map is gone, chocobo breeding might not be needed or handled the same way (maybe tie it into a more comprehensive chocobo racing/management minigame).

I have optimism that Barret's whole throughline in Corel/Saucer/Dyne could be really solid with this version of the characters.

Cait Sith... who loving knows.

Senator Drinksalot posted:

People actually like 12's battle system? What battle system is even there to like? If you make your main a melee character enjoy slow rear end auto attacking for the entire 50 hours. At least you'll get a lot of naps in!

FF9 was just slow rear end normal attacking for the entire 50 hours. FF7 and FF8 your main dude can solo most enemies throughout the game without much trouble and 8 basically disincentivizes you from using your spells or items for anything except junction fodder.

FF12 was, to me, the exact same - hold attack until once in a while you have to use a spell - but you just don't need to hold attack, and I can teach my healers to auto-cure poison if I'm in a poison zone or whatever. I don't think loading to a separate screen so I could select Attack, Attack, Attack for basch and whoever, then watching a victory dance, then going to a stats screen before resuming running would've dramatically improved anything. FFX turn scheduling was an improvement over ATB, but man I was tired of ATB.
