Long story short, Dave reported on the bad ratings UFC's show has been getting on Fox and Dana, well, he took offence and lashed out at him.

I saw the first video from a couple of weeks ago, but did something happen yesterday or the day before that led them to talk about it again?

Dana accused Dave of being in the tank for Bellator and TNA because he's friendly with King Mo or something like that.

Oh oops, yeah sorry, I really should have linked the vid myself. He starts sounding like some Alex Jones-esque ranter with his "there more going on than you know, this goes all the way to the top!" spiel. He actually questions how Dave could possibly be getting ratings numbers, as if they aren't publicly available. Insane.

Yeah that's pretty stupid, Dave has been writing about ratings for 20 years or so and UFC has been leaking him their own internal numbers since like UFC 3. And I'm sure they'll continue to do so. There's some legitimate criticism to be found in Dave's MMA coverage, and he does have biases, but he's certainly not in the tank for SPIKE.

Dana really is turning into the new Vince.

Doesn't look like it. I searched for the the word fad in the newsletter they're talking about. And it turned up once. Here's the context.

quote:

It’s likely to wind up similar to boxing, where rank-and-file shows don’t mean anything, but big shows with the two or three major superstars can set records on PPV. But boxing has certain edges, including an appeal to those over 40 who didn’t grow up with MMA. It’s got a history, and the fact to people in the media a big boxing star is a sports superstar and a big boxing event is important. UFC is still considered a novelty to a lot of decision makers, although UFC fights are inherently more entertaining. But the entertainment value of a sport means nothing. It’s the importance people perceive it as having that means everything.

It’s been successful for long enough that it’s not a fad, but boxing isn’t a fad either and if you put a secondary show on FOX on Saturday night, it’s not going to last, That’s why boxing hasn’t been on network TV in prime time in eons.

So no, in fact it looks as if he stated the exact opposite of that.

The closest to that you can get is him noting that a lot of the older decision makers are still sniffy about MMA, and THEY consider it a fad, and not a respectable sport like boxing.

That's actually a union issue with the Fertitta's casinos at this point.

Old men not understanding the sport is not the roadblock.

I don't. Vince is a literal loon. Lesnar pushes it too far and We'll get Vince McMahon Vs a dwarf dressed Lesner with an angry Jewish stereotype with King and Cole forcing out laughs as the crowd looks on confused.

Actually come to think of it I don't give a gently caress and that would make me laugh my rear end off. Hope Lesnar pushes him off the last bastion of sanity he has.
