Haaahah, holy poo poo, at the beginning of the game had to fight some big black beast thing in the dungeon under the pawn base in the big city, and we were hugely outmatched - until it charged off a cliff and netted me over 4000 XP. Awesome.

I didn't realize Brandywine was your pawn, I just randomly picked her from a list in the game one day!

Funny you should mention that. Took him out for a bit today, but I noticed that he didn't actually do anything. Sure enough, he was set to Guardian. When my Arisen is in danger, he leaps into action... but nada until then. Maybe want to play with that?

Also, finally grabbed the Triple Tooth for Brandywine. I'm very excited to see it in action for myself.

I had this exact same reaction yesterday. Made 20 party heal items and thought the game glitched because I forgot I was still in the combine menu.

Speaking of which, if you use your main pawn as a pack mule like me, don't let them handle your party heals and status removers. It's better to get the Fighter weight or Strider speed augment and do it yourself. Freighter S. just used a Panacea to cure being drenched when we were just crossing to the other side of the river. Good job buddy, I'll be handling those from now on.

Has anyone played with the assassin shield skills? I'm interested in the flight response and showdown/staredown skills... Maybe moving castle too.

Flight response will just launch you straight up when you use it to block, it says it's for 'launching the user out of harms way' but honestly it's more useful for just looking rad as poo poo when you then come down on that bandit like a ton of bricks. I suppose you could also use it against a big enemy to launch yourself up to it's head quicker?

I don't think I'm far enough to get showdown/staredown, moving castle is not very good though. It's a short, fast dash forward with your shield up. You can't use it to knock people over like bowling pins, massive let down on that.

Despite being entirely designed around being a badass tanky Fighter, Freighter S. got me the biggest RC haul and generally positive rating from anyone while I had him temporarily changed to Strider to get some different augments. :psyduck: Although for some reason nobody has still ever left a comment, just ratings and items.

Giving the Gold Idol to Madeleine was worth it, I'm starting to get armor combinations that remind me of some awesome Monster Hunter sets. I actually kind of like that the game isn't so difficult that you have to min/max your stats and whatnot, so you can use whatever armor you want as long as it's at least decent. There's almost no point to most of the cloaks and capes I've seen so far except that they look cool and animate extremely well. Seriously, I don't think I've seen another game that animates capes as well as Dragon's Dogma.

Yeah, I just did this with a pawn I'd hired. She looked like a miniature Red Sonja, chainmail bikini and everything, but with a bow and glasses(?). No one ever knows what to do first from there, it appears to be the game's biggest weakness as far as turning players away before the game even really starts. I think you should go into the cave under the pawn headquarters first (since that unlocks more story missions and they give the best gear), but others may disagree.

Grab some of the notice board quests: There's three in Gran Soren. Then go back to Cassardis, hitting the notice boards there and the Encampment. Explore Cassardis a bit and your bearings, then go track down Quina in the witchwood for the easiest escort quest in the game and pick up the Bronze Idol when you reach your destination. After that I think you'll be well on your way.

I'm afraid you might have to haul rear end back and do some quests in the starting town if you didn't. The encampment also has a few on noticeboards.

You could also try taking on a few saurians and see what you can find or mess around with the bandits/goblins/harpies/??? on the canyon area between Gran Soren and the encampment.

Without having advanced movement options from the other melee classes, or a shield, that is easier said than done. And again what good is climbing if I can't actually use the blade of my sword on them?

I just hate the warrior class so far, I don't see what advantage it has over the others except for that augment that reduces stamina use that I want, what level do I get that at?

Grapple onto the bottom, jump off and grapple in mid air to a higher spot, jump again and then heavy attack the heads. Or just wait for it's heads to smash into the ground and let it have it. Removing heads is the only way to do damage and a well equipped warrior can take them off with little effort. It's also possible to just hit the heads when they smash into the ground.

My warrior pawn's still dressed in a brown tunic with a lovely little piece of armor that covers his six-pack and a pair of greaves and that's about it. Remarkably effective until I accidentally tell the beast pulling my sweet hydra head trophy to run him over. v:v:v

I always get a little antsy about this sort of system though because I rarely ever seem to get my stuff noticed. I always have plenty to draw on, though! At least I figured out that the cost of recruitment is related to your level, so I don't have to worry at all about it.

Well I know how to fight hydras in GENERAL, but are you saying the only way to do any damage is to jump off their head with that downward slash every time, and then climb up all over again? That's lame. It seems to me the warrior class is the "gee I hope you don't run into any giant monsters!" class, compared to the others.

edit: the hydra ate my pawns while I was doing what you recommended, climbing a bit up its neck and then using a downward slash. It didn't seem to do any damage at all, despite looking like it would.

edit: after their head crashes into the ground there isn't even enough time to get over there and land one attack before it recovers.

Is that a weapon or an ability or what? I'm using the Saving Grace for a sword, it has an attack power of 639. Really it doesn't do anywhere near enough damage to ANYTHING to compensate for its low speed.

Arc of Might and Arc of Deliverance are high damage charged attacks. They aren't perfect killers, because you do have to wait for the ability to charge and if your dealing with something like an armored cyclops the plates will eat most of the damage and drop off, but anything else you can hit with it loose between one or all of its health bars, even with a weapon that's half the strength of what you're using.

Oh right, that. Doesn't that only work on targets at ground level? Hydras take no damage at ground level.

Ha ha ha! Really? Well shows what I know. I guess you could try and hit one of their heads as it came in to bite! :v:

edit: Well, in response to your edit, the Arc abilities are like the Lashes only you can move while you charge them and they do much, much more damage. They still have to be executed from the ground, so if hydras are straight immune to damage at ground level, I don't know what to suggest. Frankly, I never had trouble beating poo poo to death with the butt of my hammer. It's not as fast as carving something up with daggers or shooting it with Tenfold Flurry, but it still hits hard and works for things you have to climb like golems.
