Has anyone used different status effect arrows? Do you have to constantly go into the menu to turn them on/off. I'm running a pretty lightweight assassin, so that would kind of suck. My assassin bow utility is plummeting in the post-game and it's either that or switch to shield.

Yes, unfortunately you have to keep toggling the arrows from the menu every time.

Okay so the wiki for this game isn't very good. I feel like I'm caught between a rock and a hard place here. I just started this game, and have two quests that I want to do right away, but obviously I can't do them at the same time. "Off with it's Head" and "Lost and Found". Do quests expire? So I can do the Head one first?

There seem to be story triggers that expire quests, especially the unmarked ones, you can lose like three quests right near the start of the game by reaching the encampment.

Do Lost and Found first, otherwise it'll expire.

Is there a good sort of beginner's guide to this game posted anywhere online that anyone's aware of? I got it recently and started up a basic fighter character and am feeling fairly overwhelmed--the Dark Souls thread had a list to a similar basic newbie primer that I found extremely helpful when I first started playing that game. Barring that, does anyone have any general tips for a fighter in terms of good places I should visit early on around Cassardis/good skills/augments I should prioritize buying, or any other non-spoilery newbie advice?

Goddamn, I just now found that you can manually re-target some spells, such as High Ingle.. I locked on to one target and then moved the right stick and the second and third fireballs hit whatever I aimed toward. :)

Blink Strike and Skyward Lash are brilliant moves, when you getg Antler toss, those three together can make for some excellent combos.

Food is actually better when it's halfway to rotten in most cases, and rotten items can be combined to make all kinds of explosives and poisons and stuff, or be reconstituted by magic spring water if you are in need of them being fresh.

I got ruined the first few times I played, but started again a few times and got a good start. Make sure you do some/most/all quests in the starting town, even before you head to the first encampment. They're around the place - the board in the inn, the father at the church, the doctor near the path from your house to the front gate, so on. This'll get you far enough ahead that you'll be able to afford some decent gear, and once you finish the hydra at the encampment you can come back and do a few more quests that pop up, plus the ones on the board at the encampment.

Basically, it's important to do quests initially to ease up the difficulty a bit - after that it doesn't matter so much.

What's generally regarded as the most useful physique to have as a primarily melee character? I saw the table in the OP but how relatively useful is carry capacity vs. stamina vs. reach vs. weight/stability?

Also, I noticed I could pick up a bunch of random things scattered around which I assumed were used for crafting--is there a point in the game where you get the basics of crafting laid out for you? Are there any particularly valuable/rare ingredients I should be on the lookout for or any particularly valuable or helpful recipes early on?

Just keep trying, once you can use explosive arrows and set yourself on fire they go down ridiculously fast. Just stack explosive arrows and they'll all blow up together when it lands then you set yourself on fire and jump on it

I've got the final main quest now but I feel like I've missed some major stuff that I'm not sure if its post game. I've heard about healing springs and the tainted mountain temple but I've never seen any. I thought I'd done most side quests though

I am starting to think there is way less to the map than it initially seems. Is all of that surrounding area just nonexistent fluff? Seems like you can only explore about 1/4 of the map and every new mission I get is sending me back to places i have already been.

The map is deceptive, to an extent. The lack of fast travel does a lot to make the playable area seem much larger than it actually is, though.

I have a hard time faulting the scale of the game, because every time I go somewhere I feel like it's a journey (and not in a tedious way). You learn how to get around quickly if you need to, though.

How useful do people generally find the Warrior's charge-up attacks? I'm not sure whether to focus my build with the respective Augments and have the Lash / Arc skills on or try something a bit more mobile / versatile.

Also, do we know if Vehemence and Clout apply seperately (so it's the base value +30% total) or stack (e.g. the 10% bonus is applied then the 20% bonus is applied on top of that)?

The map's poo poo and all but it really, really doesn't help that the quest markers point you in the wrong direction in caves and dungeons. Instead of pointing to the correct exit, they point to the nearest one, so I ran smack into an ogre which managed to kill me after it died. At least I had a wakestone (gently caress that guy's kid, I'm not reloading because the game didn't recognize I killed it).

Thinking of starting a new game so I can get all the stuff I didn't even know about in my first playthrough. I played Sorcerer and that was incredibly satisfying in terms of the raw damage I could put out. Do any of the other classes play similar in terms of the 'hang back and make things dead' thing? I was thinking Magic Archer might be similar to what I like, but still allow me to mix things up a little.

Ranger is basically the closest thing there is to a sniper class. It has a shot that gives you something like a 10x zoom and another one that takes all your stamina to fire but lets you guide a high-powered arrow mid-flight in slow motion. Also some of the abilities sound a little bit like gunshots. It's great fun.

I was planning on playing Assassin next but I'm seriously reconsidering and switching to Magick Archer based on the description because I want to light myself on fire and crawl around on giant monsters like some sort of horrible flaming cockroach.

Magic Archer is definitely the class I enjoy playing the most. However, its stat growth is pretty underwhelming, so I would definitely recommend getting some time in as a Sorceror before going to Magic Archer. One for getting better Magic Attack growth, and two for getting those augments that help Magic Casters. I initially went Strider to Magic Archer and always noted how my bow skills did rather meager damage.

Think I'll give Magic Archer a try, then. Only thing is I might miss is having access to Maelstrom a.k.a the monster-killer, but being able to counter those annoying ranger bandits seems like a fair trade-off...

The best part is I somehow trained my pawn to use a skill whenever I knock one over, pick him up, and toss him. I was trying to get them to stab the guy while I was holding him, but I think this way is much better.

If I go Magick Archer from Strider, will I be at a disadvantage due to lack of magic stats, or should it not be a problem? I'm thinking its going to be that or Assassin now.

I use Arc of Might because it's hilarious to take a 15 second wind up and then knock a bubble off a boss monster in one shot. gently caress all this climbing stuff, I'm going to kill you by hitting you in the foot SO HARD.

I don't think I'd bother with more than one charge attack though. I have the one charge up, Lunge for mobility, and Whirlwind Smash because it pops up and knocks down nearly any non-huge single target while doing great damage and often hitting a guy behind you too. So I guess I'd say go with more versatility.

There are a couple of healing springs scattered around. At least one of the escort quests brings you to one of them. They aren't really important beyond Spring Water being a decent full party healing item. They're big blue rocks jutting out of glowing ponds. If you fill out all of the blank spots on your map you can't miss them.

The Tainted Mountain relates to the story so you will certainly be visiting it in the near future.
