Apple is really, really.....really restrictive about who can get an iPhone and I know Costco doesn't do business in a manner that would agree with it. Did I mention Apple is really restrictive? (Don't ask me how the gently caress Walmart got it, but then again, they are MASSIVE) The only reason most smaller retailers like me got it, was the sales of the iPhone 4 were total poo poo and they went into panic mode for a bit, when the 4S came out they couldnt exactly lock us out.

I really want the Galaxy S III, but I really want to not give Samsung anymore money ever after the Droid Charge's unbelievable lack of support and the Galaxy Nexus's wildly lovely radio hardware. You can probably put money on the GS III having worse radios than the RAZR/RAZR Maxx. The problem is, nobody else is building anything I want.

If you already have a Galaxy Nexus, why would the SGSIII be a compelling purchase anyways?

For most people, nothing. For spergs like me, well, it's a no-brainer. Clarification here. I'm going to tread cautiously with the GS III. No purchasing until CM9 or AOKP is mature and ready to go (never again, TouchWiz). Anyone who purchases a GS III over the GNex without being an audio-sperg is basically doing it wrong. This would be a lot easier for me if the Droid Fighter just shipped with a Wolfson DAC, heh.

http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57447129-1/android-4.0-for-droid-razr-delayed-verizon-says-june-12/ June 12th sounds about right for the Razr ICS update; I'd really like to see ICS on my Maxx before Q3. Then again, I really don't see how seeing as how there hasn't been a soak test yet. I really don't want to go the route of a rom since there's a locked bootloader and reports of all kinds of not working bits and problems in general. Argh. Just an FYI, double data for 4G ends today. Also had a last minute scheduled conference call, that got canceled at the last minute yesterday about commissions, so they are getting ready for something. But I don't think it will effect consumers yet.

I was messing around on my phone this morning, and it appears Verizon is testing 4g in Binghamton, NY today. Speeds are only ok right now, but I don't know if that's indicative of final speeds.

I pre-ordered a 16gb white SIII this morning and was able to keep the $29.99 unlimited data package. The ship date said by 7/6/12, but I would suspect shipment somewhere around the 20th since all other carriers are releasing on that day as well. Historically phone releases have been around 2 weeks after pre-orders go up.

IMM76K finally came through for me yesterday, too. I updated at about 9 am CST with 90% battery left pre-update. Here I am, 24 hours later, with 50% battery left. I left Wi-Fi on all day, as well. Screen was on auto brightness and I used the phone for a couple of hours throughout the day. I don't want to get hopes up, but my battery is lasting at least three times as long as it was with 4.0.2. Edit: also gonna note that the screen dims after a few seconds, even if brightness is set to max. Finally time to show off this beautiful screen without using half of the battery. Amazon does that with brand new phones as well. You have to have service for at least six months. The GNex is still 200 bucks at Verizon, or 150 at Amazon.

I really wanted to use my phone to record videos with my friends, but my phone was dead before noon the second day (with airplane mode turned on, lowest possible brightness, and very light usage) and five of the eight available MicroUSB chargers were broken.

Is the S3 likely to get an extended battery kit? I didn't see one on Samsung's website yet but they do have some for other models. If I can get a big battery for it that takes away my big reservation for getting one. If Moto doesn't want to let me buy their new phone then I guess I won't. Are the batteries in G'Nexs' and such that bad? My razr used to last most of the day with pretty steady use but I just rooted it recently and put the eclipse GB rom on and bought SetCPU and now it's still at 20% after being on from 7AM to midnight with music listening and such all day.

The screen type and size were exactly what I wanted in a phone, but everything else was wrong, so i got the Galaxy Nexus instead. Screen/radios/build quality are all better.

Battery life has dramatically improved since upgrading to 4.0.4. My stock battery lasts about 17 hours on a full charge with 3g. I'm sure the LTE radio uses more juice, though, so take that into consideration. I've seen third-party batteries (NFC) about double that of the stock battery, but it almost doubles the phone's thickness as well. All in all, the Gnex is the best phone I've ever had the pleasure of using. I haven't put a screen protector on and the screen only has a few tiny surface scratches. My only complaint with the phone is that I have to set it face down if I want to use the alarm because the speaker gets blocked and the volume is greatly diminished.
