Eggie posted:I think one or two years ago, I did a "power playthrough" of FFXII. The idea of this power playthrough is to level up Vaan early and reap awesome equipment. One of the steps in this power playthrough is to farm Werewolves for Kotetsus, and if I remember correctly, you kill the two Werewolves, walk to screens east (without touching the save point), return and kill them again. Eventually your chain level will increase and the chances of them dropping Kotetsus will increase too. I've done that as well. It seems like a grind at first, but ends up saving you a lot of time. IIRC, I 100%-ed the game in about 30 hours.

I liked 12 pretty well, but man I just don't want to grind poo poo out like that ever, especially in a single player story driven game. It's unavoidable in games now though. Even the Souls games which are otherwise super tight have grinding for upgrades. Roguelikes are kinda the anti-Final Fantasy, but they share some basic building blocks. I've been playing Brogue and the way it integrates trad RPG upgrading mechanics with exploration and progress into the game is so expert. I know it's probably not equivalent but it just seems loving clumsy that a multimillion dollar franchise with a team of hundreds and 25 years of history can't resolve fundamental problems that a 2MB shareware game knocks out of the park

Which means there's a huge factor of luck as to how well you end up doing due to the randomization of the loot. There are certainly some skill aspects, but not nearly to the degree of most roguelikes.

The Rune Axe does more damage with a high Strength and a high Magic stat. Berserkers are third behind Monks and Knights for Strength, and Black Mages are right behind Summoners for highest Magic. (I'm not counting the GBA exclusive jobs since those aren't used in the Fiesta.) Give your end-game Berserker the Rune Axe, !Black Lv. 6, and watch the unfold.

I dunno, I laughed and shut it off as soon as the turban dudes burst in. It just felt like "ENIX MAKES MODERN WARFARE 4" But at least I got a laugh out of it. I guess I'm no longer wowed by fantastic graphics, and the only things I thought were, "that rock looks pretty real" and "they put way too much effort into that dude's beard, that probably cost like the GDP of most developing nations."

They also love to tell us how impossible it would be to remake old games because "you have no idea how much time and effort it takes to make these worlds with new graphics," and yet we get mini-movies like this with incredibly detailed worlds, new characters and locations, etc. that are not part of any project at all and are just to show off.

All their iOS stuff has those terrible cheap text boxes/fonts, I really don't get it. This game is an up-port of a Japanese cellphone game, so not only does it have the new ugly UI and an ugly filter over the top, but some of the sprites are more touched up than others, leading to weird discrepancies like the ones in that pic. At least the game itself is supposed to be pretty good.

It's not difficult to see that it's a magic vs. technology war -- the insurgents have chemicals that can genetically gently caress with animals as well as carry modern weaponry, the mages have magic that can electrify and summon beasts.

Faux-FF15 looks silly, but then it's (probably) not going to be what the game is about anyway, so I might as well enjoy the beautiful beard physics. Cid deserves the best beard physics for their next remake of FF4. Of course, it really depends on what over-the-top battle system they come up with, as I can tolerate the Adventures of Bahamut in the Middle East if the game's fun. The phone game looks hideous, but hey, it might be fun. Just wish they used a little of that tech demo money to make the thing look half-decent. It's like they can't make any decent 2D graphics anymore.
