Nothing. They're loving it up well enough on their own.

Trashy soap operas are usually watched by not the brightest of people. Powerful women that also are attractive can be really sexy.

Anything else you guys need, just let me know.

What exactly are they loving up? Do you think being stupid and poor are the same thing? Do you think saying you want to ram your cock down someone's throat to shut them up is a compliment, or do you just want to degrade women anonymously on the internet?

Also, you don't need any Apple devices to watch video in iTunes.

Oh, excellent. I'm having a look at the MIT OpenCourseWare stuff, and the stuff I've looked at seems to have subtitles. Thanks! This will be interesting to watch.

Both of those shows used to be huge over here, airing twice daily (midday and early evening). Britain loves soap operas for reasons I can't comprehend, at least the Oz ones have nice weather so I quite enjoyed both those shows while I find Coronations St, Emmerdale and Eastenders depressing trash.

Most of what I know of Oz TV just seems to be remakes of shows we get here in the UK, so you have my commiserations. The redo of TV Burp was scarily close to the original, same set and I'd swear they'd used the same writers due to the way the gags worked.

I like anything The Chaser does and Micallef was funny back in the day, but I'm pretty out of touch with what else is big your side. I know of Outrageous Fortune and McCleods Daughters (or something like that) but haven't ever seen them. I don't think we've imported anything non-soap from you guys for years now.

Wow, it's really the weather? Sorry, but you guys are so starved for a series of days where it isn't grey and miserable watching a TV show about that sorta makes sense? Man..

Our shows are remakes of UK and US shows, by a wide margin. TV is actually terrible here and noone really watches it, you've either got cable or some download service or something or you just don't watch anything at all. There just isn't anything on that you'd want to tune into, it's more that the TV is just on and you kinda zone out watching something imported or mindless until you're so bored you go and do the dishes or something because at least then the loving dishes are done.

So I end up watching a lot of stuff from overseas, hence my current Dragon's Den thing and I'll be taking up a few of the other suggestions from here.

For instance something big here now is The Voice. Which is Australian Idol (which is American Idol, etc). There are some other named Aussie versions of the same thing. So it's teenagers singing often questionably to a crowd of SCREAMING teenagers that have been hyped up by some crew member and then some has-been singer wipes a tear and makes some statement about how she's blown away.

Where we own is film. If you haven't seen Shine (1996) then find it and watch it and you'll understand what I mean.

Most British TV and film just looks grim. You just can't make this cursed island look a fun place to live. Nobody in these shows is ever happy, it's just gloom and doom. At least Neighbours has bright colours and people who are sometimes happy. This is enough to make me want to watch it sometimes.

I don't watch much British TV, for the majority it's just utter trash. 99% of what I watch is imported too.

To clarify in here for other people, you need an aerial and an ethernet connection (no wireless available on this box) to connect your box to. The aerial provides standard DTV service (your normal Freeview+ things with PVR), and the ethernet adds a backwards EPG, allowing you to scroll backwards in time and watch catch-up (at least on BBC/ITV/C4/C5), or search for programs through the box UI and watch them that way.

My father- and brother-in-law have both worked with Brucie and they said he was one of the most unpleasant people they've ever worked with; full of ego, and often acting a little like a spoiled child if things weren't going his way. 'Absolute prick' is how they described him.

There was a Channel4 documentary about him a couple of years ago, and he did come across as quite an unlikeable person (his wife, however, came across as a lovely lovely lady). He is in remarkable condition for his age though, and although his daily workouts seem a little bizarre, they obviously work for the man.

I don't know if you'd enjoy The Castle. It's basically one long Aussie in-joke about our culture (like references to the exact make and models of the cars we drive). Give a try, by all means, but it's not an objectively brilliant piece of film like Shine is. Romper Stomper (1992) is another really good one, a frightening look into Neo-Nazi culture (sort of American History X but with pissed off young white Australians) and you'll see why Russell could then go on to do big things (he plays a great lead in it). If you're feeling light-hearted, so are most Aussies, and the self-deprecating, simple-yet-poignant humour that is integral to our culture (and the English culture too actually, I can really connect with Brits on that level) is really well realised in classics such as Muriel's Wedding (1994) and Priscilla Queen of the Desert (1994). I've always really liked Malcolm (1986) too (and showcases another of our exported leading men).

The age of these films does not matter, because their subject matter is timeless and the presentation so earnest and devoid of modern trends and fashion.

I know this is the TV thread, but it's hard to have a decent conversation about (because TV is so terrible most of the time).
