I would. This is the last chance to extract $350 from Verizon in the form of subsidy and keep unlimited.

I would just keep the SGS3 in a sealed box and sell it as a new phone.

This is what I'm doing. I'm pre-ordering a GS3 on Monday and keeping it in the box until I see what the RAZR HD becomes.

A ham sandwich would be an improvement in terms of functionality and battery life relative to the Thunderbolt.

In the interest of fairness, the Thunderbolt is actually quite serviceable if you run CM7 with leanKernel. My record was 96 hours of battery with less than 30 minutes of screen time, but under normal usage (3-4 hours of screen time) I can generally get around 16 hours of total battery life while on LTE.

That being said, I cannot wait for my SGS3 to get here.

All right, I bit the bullet and ordered the 32Gb white GSIII. I hope I'll be able to sell my Nexus + accessories to cover the cost.

3 to 4 hours is no where near serviceable.

Read it again. 3-4 hours of SCREEN TIME (meaning you are actively using it) will give you about 16 hours of battery life.

And I find that Facebook is probably one of the biggest consumers of battery life on Android. It churns through a lot of data for photos and takes along time getting updates.

The official app is a big pile of rear end. I usually just use touch.facebook.com since it's basically the same thing. I was recommended Flipster the other day, which is rather nice. Loads quick and is mostly Holo themed. Only thing is the first time I open it it quits before load and somehow kills DoggCatcher with it. But clicking it again loads it normally. It could just be my hacked together Droid X ICS rom though.

As of right now, the only way you're going to lose unlimited data is to upgrade to a new device after June 28 and get it at a subsidized cost. After June 28, the only way to keep unlimited data is to buy your new device off-contract from a non-Verizon source and then activate it on your line, or buy the device from Verizon at full retail cost ($699 or whatever).

As long as you're under contract, Verizon isn't going to just turn off your unlimited data. That's what the contract is for.

Well, I guess its a good thing me and my wife just got our phones a few months ago so I won't be doing anything with my account and I should keep my data.... I hope.

drat. Yea,looks like I'll be ordering a Maxx today. Much as I'd prefer the Nexus on principle, the radio issues are enough to scare me away. Maybe I'll just buy the Inc4g when it launches, and sell the Maxx.

Faster, you naughty little monkey!
I've been reading/following and trying to figure out what everyone else is.

I can upgrade but want the Droid HD/Fighter but want to keep my unlimited data plan. So the options are:

1: Purchase an Iphone 4s and resell (new or used?)
2: Join Costco, upgrade there, and then return when the Droid HD/Fighter is released
3: Just suck it up and buy the SGS3 (sell or keep?)

Did I miss anything?

Any ideas when the Droid HD/Fighter will be released?

Which option is the way to go or are they all equal??? all this is too much for my little brain to figure out

joeshmoetogo
Mar 20, 2006

1. iPhone retains more value new. Leave the shrink-wrap.
2. No guarantee Costco won't kick you off unlimited when you perform a device exchange.
3. Good option. Consider pre-ordering at Costco with this, noting the above.

Nope. Each line is a separate contract, even if they're grouped into the same bill. You share a pool of minutes, but that's about it.

iPhones are made to activate automatically on first power on with no user interaction. If you sell an upgrade device without ever turning it on, the new owner will have a nice new phone that has the service of your existing line.

I don't understand how this works when you tie a different MEID to your phone number directly after buying said iPhone. Further, are Verizon reps required to activate the new phone you are purchasing even if you are immediately going to swap to a different one?

Exactly, should be the same for Verizon iPhones, but as long as you swap the old phone back on and never turn in the iPhone while it's on the account, you are fine.

You may get some looks, someone buying an iPhone but not activating it is a big fraud risk, some people won't sell you the phone in store.

That was quick. A day after the upgrade page when live, Verizon announces that the update is ready and is starting the rollout.

Razr and Razr MAXX owners should now start hitting "check for updates" furiously.

It also adds global capability.

I'd listen to the manufacturer before the service provider.

That doesn't contradict anything. These rollouts are always slow at first and then add more and more people.

What I'm saying is that I'm just waiting and seeing. Moto is basically saying there's a soak test and Verizon is touting that soak test as a rollout--we know .211 is pretty stable, but if they find anything they need to fix then the timeline is put on a back-burner again.

I don't believe this rollout is going out to soak test invites only though. This is a general rollout with a just small subset at first.

Besides, I don't think Motorola has the ultimate authority to halt the update at this point. Verizon says it's done so it's going out.

FYI for anyone planning on buying a Razr Maxx at Costco. I tried last night and they told me it was one of their "home delivery" phones - so they didn't have any in store. When he tried to get the order going, it wasn't showing up in his system to order. He said that's typically a sign that they are converting it to a "store" phone (where you can get them in store) and didn't have any ideas as to when they might be getting them.

So if you're trying to make the 6/28 deadline like I am, you might want to order on their website and hope you get it in time.
