If you're looking for something good to listen to on your iPod or whatever, Hell's Headbangers puts out a very good podcast called Hellcast. It's not just all HHB bands or just death/black but it's a good mix of underground stuff you may or may not have heard before (even including some power metal). The guy doing the DJing, Reaper, knows his poo poo and adds some good insight to the music. Also, each show usually usually includes an interview where the guest will also pick out a few of their favorite tracks. You really couldn't ask for a better metal show. The only bad thing is, if you're like me, you'll end up buying a couple albums after each episode. The podcast started about a year ago and Reaper was putting out episodes on a regular basis. For whatever reason the show has been on hiatus for 2012. The good news is that they put a new episode last week and are promising to keep it coming on a regular basis.

So I just got back from seeing Alice Cooper & Iron Maiden in Jersey. Was a couple people behind the railing up front.. the closest I've been to the stage at a show in an arena and it just kicked so much goddamn rear end.

There isn't a first to the barrier for my city so im thinking of just taking a half day at work and milling about until people begin to come so I can get right up front for this one. I did that for the last tour and got a pick from Adrian Smith, hoping for a pick from Steve Harris this time. What a good month for metal tho. Next week is Shockwavefest with Fear Factory (new album is alright), Voivod and Cattle Decapitation (new metal owns) plus tons of other good acts. Than Skeletonwitch a day after Maiden!!

OK so Topshop (a fashion store aimed at young women in the UK, for non-Brits) sells a Slayer shirt. Fine. Whatever. They've been selling Iron Maiden/Motörhead etc. t-shirts for many years, and metalheads roll their eyes but generally get on with life. But this time they've managed to sell a shirt which has - alongside the Slayer logo - the Totenkopf insignia used by the 3rd SS Division. Hahahaha good loving job, Topshop buyers. http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/s...r&resultCount=1 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3rd_SS_Division_Totenkopf

Other than it looking really tacky and the obvious historical atrocities that were used by the SS in the past, I'm not quite sure why you're as upset about this as you are since Slayer has been using Nazi imagery for years? Or was it just more of a reaction to a retailer thinking this would fly with a much more general customer base that doesn't cater exclusive towards metalheads? I'm not defending the Totenkopf insignia at all, but if anything I'm surprised that it took this long for a Totenkopf Slayer shirt to be made in the first place. More kinda great job on the historical image-checking rather than upset, as it happens. I mean, Topshop is on every high street in the UK, so a mistake of this magnitude is kinda funny.

If you like old-school Death Metal then you should listen to Witchrist. These dudes are from New Zealand (which has also given us awesome bands like Ulcerate) and kick all kinds of rear end. Their latest album was released on Osmose Productions and it slays. Click me! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfLm9WFvkQk \m/

Seconding this, even though I haven't heard the new album yet, because what I have heard of their material rules. It's available on Spotify for all of you who use that as well. On another note, the new Gojira gets better every listen. I thought it was good, but not not special at first, and now I am really enjoying it. Likewise, Deathspell Omega's Drought, which underwhelmed me at first, is now sounding rather excellent. Both definite growers.

It's worth noting that the Totenkopf isn't necessarily related to Nazi ideology, since it originated in Prussian armies long before then. But... it's still tactless to use on a Slayer shirt in a popular British clothing store

One day I'm wearing an Iron Maiden shirt as we walk to the beach and this totally hosed up looking homeless dude sees us and starts approaching us. I got in front of my mom and bro in case something went down but when he reached us he just shouted in a gravelly voice at me, "6! 66! The number of the beast!", throws me the horns and walks off. Mom was pretty scared but I was cracking up.

Slayer will have okay'd the use of their logo, if perhaps not the final design (although I doubt they'd give a poo poo). Topshop have removed it from their stores and online shop as of last night.
