I like duck typing too but objc is strict typing, no ducks there. Its a decent language but I think its ill-suited to stuff like mobile app development, too low level.

Apparently a strict superset of C is "too low level" for a platform with limited processing power and strict energy requirements. Slap a VM on it

otoh, webos matched iOS, and even surpassed it, in many features with about 6 months of development, versus 5 or 6 years from the richest company in the world, and what language was that written in?

use the right tool for the right job

if you're writing a functional backend, java or c or something
if you're writing a web CRUD use php or perl or python or ruby
if you're writing a little function on a website, use javascript

if you're trying to write a server in javascript or a webpage in c, kill yourself

i don't get this sentiment. obj-c obviously makes it easier to write native code and it's tailored for the platform. as close to ideal as it gets

also I have no idea how 0mq makes things 'scalable'. scaling an application is m often an operations problem, more than an implementation problem.

Scaling should be an operations problem, many bad projects end up with problems that hinder that task or make it very expensive.

I love with 0mq you can start with inter-thread sockets, move to inter-process, then cross-network with only a configuration change. That's putting power into operations hands.

I'm using 0mq in a hedge fund project to distribute big data queries, it gives a nice simple low learning curve API which is a nice change after looking at many other APIs in the industry.

Today I had an editor asking if I wanted to write a 0mq book, it would be nice to have an alternative reference for complex paradigms. However my last project name is translated as "trash", so probably not much better :tipshat:

yeah i looked into this. i had some ideas for a mobile app i wanted to build, decided web app made the most sense

found out i'd either have to use generic ui components that look pretty lovely or still program a fuckload of platform-specific parts

basically gently caress mobile development
