Chemtrail Clem posted:As much as I hate Jesse thorn and think he is a weird unfunny creep I just listened to that episode out of curiosity and the Penny arcade guys are even more awkward. Theyre already confrontational like 5 minutes into it and dont make any attempt to even humor them, just giving one word responses to questions and acting like smart asses. Maybe there was an awkward tension in the room before recording even began with the fat Penny arcade writer and Jesse competing for the alpha nerd role Yup. They pretty obviously didn't know what the show format was and instead of rolling with it, got lovely. Jordan and Jesse were pretty much like they always are, it's not like they were dicks to them or anything outside of Jordan being late. In fact, the Penny Arcade guys were the ones saying condescending, pissy stuff. I specifically remember one of the Penny Arcade guys saying "Oh, all these books and none of them are the right ones..." Also one of them made a post on their site about it where he made fun of Jesse for wearing a bow-tie, having a library, etc. Made them look like pretty big assholes.

You can read a few levels deep on that one, and I can see it being enough to turn off listeners who started at 1. It's funny because that was one of the things that hooked me for good. I guess I just found the whole thing hilarious rather than offensive, and his continued explanations just made everything funnier, what with Seth just sitting there in silence.

Jonathan going on about something really dumb and Seth just sitting in silence or shooting it down is one of the best dynamics in UYD. I'm immediately thinking of this, the "1 in 10 black babies have autism" thing, the technology that was supposed to make you be able to see auras, and the M&M color matching challenge. I don't know what I'd have thought if I started at episode 1, but by the time I heard that I'd already gotten used to Jonathan.

The craziest thing is they he brought up the black people not getting Downs thing again, and I remember vividly the two episodes he first claimed 1 in 10 have it, then clarifying that black people are as likely as any race to have downs syndrome. And yet he brought it up and completely forgot the lesson he had learned.

Oh my god, I just finished episode 49 of UYD in the car where the boys were thrilled that the oldest man in the world died and now Emma Tillman, 114, is the oldest person in the world now. The episode is dated January 27th 2007. I just got home and the first thing I did was wikipedia her to see if she was still alive. NOPE, died. On January 28 2007. loving loooooooooooool, I cannot wait to hear the follow up to this tomorrow

I could have sworn something similar happened to this when they listed off what celebrities named their children. Sage Moonblood Stallone came out on top and he ended up dying not long after. UYD is scary stuff, man. They know.

poo poo I would have called Jah on his birthday if the podcast had come out before today. Speaking of which, does he edit the podcast at all? The quality and conversation just flows and it's the same in the live show, but I wonder if he does anything besides putting the music in.

HipGnosis posted:poo poo I would have called Jah on his birthday if the podcast had come out before today. He does edit sometimes, he's very good at it but occasionally you notice the breaks. The best editing is the one where the recording stopped working half an hour in and it took them like an hour to fix. I honestly wouldn't have noticed apart from Seth bringing it up and kind of pissing off Jonathan.

Just to repeat this, episode 334 is one of the best yet. Starting off with racist/sexist comments regarding the removal of urinals in battleships and it only goes up from there. In fact we get TWO great Seth rants during the piece. If you've been out of UYD for a while, now is the time to dip back in. You'll be glad you did.
