Yeah, both the Razr and Razr MAXX only have a QHD screen (960×540), so pentile is going to stand out a lot more on them.

The Razr HD will be using the same Colorboost non-pentile LCD that the Atrix HD has. Since it will be 4.5in, the same 1280x720 resolution as the Gnex, AND non-pentile, it will probably be the best looking phone in Verizon's lineup.

The one on the Galaxy Nexus is barely noticeable. I accidentally put the regular battery door on while the extended battery was in, and the only difference was that one of the little latch/peg things didn't make it all the way in, so there was about a one inch section on side of the door that wasn't quite flush. Most cases and accessories seem to fit just fine either way.

My old Droid X was about twice as fat with the extended battery though.

FWIW I have a RAZR MAXX sitting next to an Atrix HD right here and I'm really not bothered by the MAXX's screen. Sure, if I go LOOKING for pixels I can see them a little, but I've never been using the phone day to day and said, "Holy poo poo, PIXELS!". And the battery life is great to have.

Pentile is highly visible on some phones - however, the general use of it reflects on a general lack of quality and well, guess what? a lot of people can see it. You don't need a microscope or eaglevision.

No, it reflects on the limit of technology for a display.

Name me one non-pentile QHD or HD AMOLED display in a mass production phone.

Both are LCD, not AMOLED.

LCD would have increased the thickness of the Razr and Razr MAXX. Honestly, use of LCD is likely why the Razr HD will have a 2500mAh battery rather than closer to the 3300 of the Razr MAXX.

There are a few build leaks out there and they are said to be really solid. It's entirely possible that the push is waiting on Verizon approval right now.

Anyone in Lower Manhattan having 4G issues? My Razr Maxx doesn't want to connect to any 4G where I work (Broadway & Wall Street), even with rebooting and toggling mobile data on and off.

My phone says that 3G signal strength is -83dBm, with 1x at -73. When it does connect to 4G briefly, it reads the same signal strength as 3G, then kicks back down to 3G.

Very annoying, especially since 3G is slow as crap down here. As soon as I get to Jersey via the PATH, 4G comes back.

I can explain - I've posted my experience with the GNex -> Maxx experience in the Android phone thread and I had/have the same issue as you except in midtown. I did a lot of testing (both phones) across Manhattan, and the simple fact is that in some areas (especially Wall Street/midtown east where most offices are) during business time the networks get too congested.

If you wait until after 6/7pm you will probably get 4g fine, but during business hours it's not likely to happen (or if it does it doesn't stay for very long).

The extended battery on the Nexus is, IIRC, only 400mAh better than the stock. Most extended batteries are 1.6x-2.0x the stock battery, and make the phone look like it's wearing a backpack.

What parts? I'm all over these two cities and have excellent reception. Solid 3G everywhere except for way up in the hills. North county SD, east county SD, downtown SD and LA, west side LA, and noho. All 4-5 bars, all the time. Maybe 2 bars in palms/culver. I'm on a 4S. My mom used to have an incredible 2 in north county SD and she has zero problems. I think your phone is the issue man.

Where have you been reading this. Our experience so far with the S3 is that the battery is quite good.

I generally go to bed at night with around 40-50% remaining, depending on a number of factors. But I've not yet had to charge before the end of the night.

My wife's usage would burn through a battery and a half every day on her old phone. She still has 15-20% left on average by bedtime.

That's what I was afraid of. I live in La Jolla and travel to West LA frequently and data crawls in both areas and I drop calls at home constantly. I've tried some different roms but I guess it's just the hardware. You can't buy a phone straight from Google on Verizon can you?

What's the situation with wifi hotspots and tethering?

My mom lost her phone while in the hospital today. We need to replace it tomorrow, and she wants a smartphone (she has a free upgrade).

However, she also just got rid of her Internet connection at home, since her computer is in shambles. I just gave her my nook color to play with and it would be nice if she could use her new phone to work it. She has never been good with technology, but she was actually doing well on the nook, and she wants to try.

I'm guessing iPhones don't do wifi or tethering? What's a good, simple, reliable smartphone? The Galaxy Nexus seems good...

There is absolutely no way you should have her buy anything but an iPhone. I have a Nexus right now and I can't imagine trying to explain the ins and outs to my mom. "Hey mom, the reason your phone is dying is because some app is causing too many wakelocks. Download this battery manager to see if you can find out the cause!"

She also won't want to use the Nook once she's used to the iPhone, but yeah, the iPhone does do WiFi (do any phones not have WiFi?) and can tether.

Is this in specific locations or everywhere? If your phone is stuck on 3G everywhere, try power cycling your phone if you haven't already. Every now and then my phone flakes out and gets stuck on 3G (in LTE coverage) and a restart usually sets it right.

If you're losing LTE in certain areas where you could connect before, but if you move to another area and pick up LTE, its likely a network problem.

My wife dropped her iphone into a lake this weekend and was not able to recover it. I have a friend who has an old verizon phone that they are going to lend us till the iphone 5 comes out and we can just buy her one. Do I need to take the phone into a store to have them port the number? I know when I was on sprint I could do it from a website.

Also, I assume the iphone is dead as can be, but should I issue a wipe command on it anyway? In case some scuba diver finds it and it somehow is working?

Keep in mind there could be data plan complications. If you are currently on unlimited data, that lender phone needs to be a smartphone for you to keep your unlimited data as you can't drop down to a dumbphone and then back to a smartphone and keep unlimited.

I bought an iPhone off SA Mart, waiting to get it in the mail this week. I'm under my parent's family plan and will add data to my line. I am not an "authorized" user, so my mother will have to give the go-ahead but she lives 2 hours away and I don't want either of us to take a day off to go and see eachother for what I'm guessing is a 15 minute process.

If I take the iPhone into a Verizon store to replace my current phone, do they just need to call her up and get an okay from her?

If she doesn't know that password, she can call and have it changed. :-]

Why not call her up, take a few minutes on the phone to register an account with her, then make the change.

And after you've registered the account online, you can just skip the authorized user business and activate the phone through the self-service feature on the website. There's a button on there for activating a device; you key in the ESN, then when it tells you you dial *228 on the phone.
