People who may be disaffected from the mainstream or by the system that would readily join up if someone "liberated" the country, or those in power willing to prostitute themselves to their new overlords. It's kind of a myth that Americans would resist foreign occupation, because any invading force would do the same as we've done in Iraq and others before us: pick a local "white knight" or group and back them. Say what you will about the politics of TDKR, but at least they showed people joining up with Bane so they could get their licks in at the power structure, be it the wealthy or the police.

This movie will only be good if North Korea wins in the first five minutes and we don't have to watch the annoying kids any more. The rest of the movie can just be North Korea creating a new Socialist workers paradise in American, and everyone comming to realise how much better their lives are they don't have annoying teenagers to worry about.

There was some talk of Stallone doing one in the mid-90s, but thankfully it never happened. Everyone needs to be pumped for Dredd. Alex Garland has said that if it's successful enough they're going to follow up with The Cursed Earth and The Dark Judges, and that just has to be done. (Spoiler is for

What, no Judge Cal? Just think of the fun you could have with an insane absolute dictator, an 18 certificate and a black sense of humour. And you'd have the world's biggest from Aaron A Aardvark when Cal sentences the entire city to death, in alphabetical order. EDIT: just realised that the UK poster for Dredd has him in a more or less identical pose to the iconic splash page from 'America', where he's standing with his boot on the bloodied body of a person draped in the stars and stripes and the caption "Justice has a price. The price is freedom." Small Strange Bird fucked around with this message at 13:37 on Aug 11, 2012 |

I'm gonna guess that from the '$10 million' in the tagline, it's called stolen because he has to steal the money for the ransom.

Noxville posted:I'm gonna guess that from the '$10 million' in the tagline, it's called stolen because he has to steal the money for the ransom. Yeah, it probably doubles as both his daughter and the money he will need for the ransom. "Kidnapped" got used for a single-season drama on NBC about 5 years ago. The only thing I remember of it is that it had Rusty Venture as an assassin accountant.

And in a movie about a kidnapped daughter or a $10 million robbery, which are audiences going to care about more? The conflict is about the daughter, the movie should've been named Kidnapped. Or maybe Dollars For Daughters.

Talks To Cats posted:Why would someone kidnap someone's daughter for ransom if he didn't have the money? Maybe it's a Nick of Time scenario, where the masterminds of the plot need a patsy to conduct their plan and do so by holding the main character's daughter hostage. Or it's like Gone In 60 Seconds, where the main character is a retired car thief who is forced back into the business on penalty of the death of his brother. Or it's like Firewall or Hostage, where the main character has special access to something the hostage-takers want or need to have done and, for the lead, doing so is tantamount to a crime. Edit: you know what, here's the loving plot... quote:A former thief, Will Montgomery, is released from prison for a bank robbery of $10 million. He decides to visit his estranged daughter, Riley Simms, whom he hasn't seen in eight years. But when an old partner, who many believed to have died, kidnaps Riley and locks her in the trunk of his medallion taxi cab, and demands ransom: the $10 million he believes Will still has. Since he doesn't, Will has to rob another bank. Mayhem ensues. Young Freud fucked around with this message at 00:09 on Aug 12, 2012 |
