How would I gently caress the hookers and kill them for my money afterwards? I didn't particularily like CJ, but that was mostly because I felt no obligation to help out Groove Street. Those dudes could sit at their curbs and rot for all I care. But at least he was a better character than Niko. (I would rather have been OG Loc in San Andreas. I liked OG Loc) AngryCaterpillar posted:A cop who commits grand theft auto...? Officer Tenpenny. I hated CJ for a whole lot of reasons but race has nothing to do with any of it. I should have read the spoilers but I elected to win any many territories as I could. Losing everything that I had worked to achieve for basically no reason other than "WE HAVE TO GO BACK TO THE HOOD"? One of the biggest soul crushing moments in gaming. It's also the reason SA is the only GTA game I haven't completed. I just don't care about the main character when he acts like such a bitch despite being a millionaire gangster. Compared to Tommy or Niko? Not even close.

Until the last mission, "Family Meeting!"

But Tommy's the most stereotypical gangster possible and these games have always been about gangsters! Oh wait it's some kind of racist code meaning they hate black people. The world has its fair share of bigots, but I'm sure there were people who expected a certain kind of gangster from their GTA game. A story based around mafia/organized crime gangsters will be different than one featuring ghetto hood-rat gangsters. Either way, people who skipped SA missed out on R*'s magnum opus.

If the only thing you are hung up on is the fact that CJ is black and you are in the hood, there's no reason to fret. The best parts of the game have nothing to do with the ghetto and you'll forget CJ even has a race because who really constantly looks at the player character when playing a game?

The San Francisco part was kind of aimless and annoying, though things picked up with Las Vegas. There were great missions in the "country" part, but it was a nightmare to navigate and God help you if you failed a mission.

There was some good stuff that took place in Los Santos, but it was all wrapped up in the "you gotta rep the hood, CJ, don't be a busta." I think a better main character would have been that Mexican guy because he seemed to know what the gently caress was up and wasn't obsessed with some lovely neighborhood under an overpass in LS.

Something based off those awesome 1970s and 1960s cop shows, like Police Story and Columbo, or Hill Street Blues for something about beat cops. Or a tactical shooter similar to the SWAT games but following military police units like the GIGN, the Carabinieri and Brazil's GATE so you can have more scenarios other than "There's a armed suspect/suspects in that house/building. Breach it and arrest him/them".

You don't remember Catalina? You don't remember robbing the leeck-ah store in Blueberry? Man I loved absolutely everything about San Andreas. Building up a presence in Santos, getting kicked out, roving the countryside with Catalina, hooking up with Truth and going to Fierro, setting up the business there and hanging with Woozie, taking out the Fierro drug empire, back into the countryside to work for Toreno, heading to Venturas and getting into the casino business, pulling the heist, returning to Santos and clashing heads with Sweet till you put your problems aside to take down Smoke and Tenpenny, then the ending with the whole world your oyster and CJ deciding to just take a walk around the block and see what was happening. Amazing game, if GTAV can even capture a little of that I'll be happy.

Kashwashwa posted:This is actually the best idea I've heard yet. If it isn't this, I will be disappointed. I was thinking this. The suit guy is a cop officer. He retires out west, but is slowly brought into cop life. He takes an undercover job with a major gang. The criminal starts out as a petty thief, stealing cars and the like, and slowly becomes a career criminal as he's absorbed more and more into the "luxuries" of the criminal life. The cops joins his gang and they end up becoming close. The cop's cover is blown half way through the story, and he spends the rest of the story trying to beat the criminal's gang on each and every heist. You can't have the same gameplay because they'd be different types of characters. The cop during his tirade as a crook can steal cars, because he has to keep his cover. But once his cover is blown, he can never take cars that aren't cop/army related vehciles and will have to call in any time he's stranded to request a new vehicle. The crook won't do taxi missions and pizza crap because he's a loving criminal. Why would he give a poo poo? Meanwhile, the cop has kids, is a single dad, and still has to make ends meet because he's not really paid that great. So on occasions he takes a job doing cab fares, or delivering pizza, or doing vigilante missions. You know, nice and legal poo poo. The crook does side missions related to crime: destruction and defacing of property, house robberies, street robberies, grand theft auto, assassination missions. So in the second half of the story, the cop chases the criminal all over the state (or city, we don't know yet). The ending is decided Heat-style: with the player deciding the crook's fate: the criminal life style behind or accept his fate, as two former friends come to blows. Literally. Each character has a chapter, after each chapter, you are allowed to pick which character you want to play as next. Sometimes, if you've gotten up to a big major point in the story, you can't progress a character's story without progressing the other character's story. This is straight out of the rpg Suikoden III. Whoever survives the final conflict ends up being the main character in the post-game. I think it'd be really ballsy and inventive for the video game medium and would not only push the genre but also the medium up a few notches. Of course, this won't happen! Even LA Noir allowed you to commandeer cars. Not being able to grab a car half way through the story would be stupid.

True enough. I mostly came up with it to highlight the difference in character personalities, something Rockstar tends to have a hard on for. Also, to be fair, there are plenty of taxis to take in IV. I'd imagine V would have them as well. If the game has the option to buy cars, the cop should have that option.

For my most recent copy of San Andreas, I got it on XBOX Live a couple years ago. While I don't regret the purchase, I'd tell other people to buy it on Steam instead. The graphics are better on PC, as are the controls from what I remember. And the XBOX version has sound issues sometimes where it'll just drop out except for one thing. Like if you have a few stars and cops all around you but you're shooting at them, you'll only hear your gun firing and no sirens or anything else. I don't remember having that issue on the PC version when I used to own it.
