I don't have PM, please explain the etymology of 'a rainy night in stoke' and why the best players fail to play well due to those factors. Note: I'm an American and never been to Stoke. (which Wiki tells me is actually Stoke-on-Trent )

I'm not an expert, but I think Stoke play a "park the bus and kick it up for the big lad up front" style of football, rain makes it difficult to play for teams that play pass-and-move or at least try to keep the ball on the ground. The small size of Stoke's pitch didn't help to the pass-and-move thing either. Therefore, playing at Stoke is difficult when it rains. This expression is dated because pitch size has been regulated by the FA so all fields are the same size, also rain doesn't ruin pitches like it used to and finally Charlie Adam and Owen turned Stoke into Stokelona.

Size of field won't matter. You got 10 men directly in front of the box? You're assuming the Stoke position. They also have a reputation for kicking the poo poo out of teams. So very defensive + very strong tackling + lovely playing conditions = "rainy night in stoke"

^^^^B-Rock's just helping a fellow African I'm just saying small fields are bad for teams who play passing football or at least play with the traditional wingers who run along the line and cross it (most teams from the time of that expression). On a narrow field it's easier to mark the wingers, and it's easier to kick it to the big lad on a shorter field.

TraderStav posted:Just sounded different, that's all. Remember I'm American? Reminder that the city of Newcastle is officially referred to as "Newcastle upon Tyne". This is partially to differentiate it from Newcastle-under-Lyme, which is a suburb/satellite town of Stoke. It also denotes as to who the fog on the Tyne belongs to. LEARN STUFF WIN PRIZES

How Manchester United makes Money:Analyst at BofA posted:As must see appointment viewing, professional sports are often considered the most valuable form of content to consumers, marketers and distributors alike. In our view, as a leading franchise within a top league of the most popular sport in the world, MANU operates from a highly desirable position within the Media & Entertainment ecosystem. Simply put, so long as the team remains popular among fans, we believe it can benefit from pricing power with customers. This creates potential for a fairly virtuous cycle, where winning drives commercial success, driving buying power and top talent to the team, thereby sustaining success (Exhibit 12)
