I've never played a tribute but I can say for sure that G&L uses the exact same pickups in their non-usa models. I've heard great things but my g&l is USA made I just got it used. They seem to be very reasonably priced if you can find a used one. I love mine

Great stuff, just manufactured overseas. But yeah, they use the same electronics. G&L is great, and for the longest time, they were more Fender than Fender was.

Find yourself a G&L dealer and order one, because all USA G&Ls are made to order. All of them. Even the ones you see hanging in stores; the store ordered them that way. I used to own these two. The Comanche (left) I got in a trade, but I ordered the Legacy (right) new from a G&L dealer. Costs the same as buying one out of a store, but I got to pick my colors and woods and trim and neck options and such! This was, like, 5 or 6 years ago but I think it cost me ~$1200. I sold it because it turns out I like 7.25" fretboards and low frets (I'd ordered that one with a 12" fb with medium jumbos) but I'd absolutely own another.

Nthing the Tribute love, my bassist plays a G&L tribute, and she's been leaving hers here in my studio, so I've gotten a chance to fool around with it. I'd have gone with a slightly different neck, were it mine, but the hardware itself is great.

I have a question for my fellow guitarists. Has anyone experienced problems with Ernie Ball medium gauge strings lately? I restrung both my electrics last week and after about 8 hours of playing the strings seem very buzzy and weak. The guitars are both Les Paul's in standard tuning.

Er, well. They had a sale on acoustics over labor day. It does look like they're pretty much all hands evolution on the warehouse. I've got some good stuff from it! I was at a friends place (he rents the downstairs of a house) and we were invited by the upstairs people/landlords that their son left for university so we could have at anything he left behind. So we went rummaging through a bunch of left over crap of his for an hour or so found some neat little things, some old video games, movies, not too much. Then they invited us to clear the crawl space of his crap and low and behold this head was sitting on top of a 2x12 cab! I asked about it and the laughed, said he stopped playing guitar a year or two ago. So me and my friend jumped on this opportunity! I have my axes so I let him keep the guitar, (was a LP Standard) and I took the amp because I can always use more to fiddle with in the amp area! For the record then, it is a Mesa Stiletto Deuce I, and it is simply to die for. This thing is so thick and bass heavy I'm lowering the bass and bringing up the treble and presence a fair deal! I don't understand it considering everything I've read and heard, but I hear no harsh highs or brights at all... I'm kind of scared. Putting direct link because I don't want to post a huge mediocre cell phone pic took in low lighting. edit: Just looked in the back of the amp and noticed a little metal plate with the mesa logo and serial number, this thing is #ST-000082. Justdid some work on my Cobain 'Stang. It came with a Tune-O-Matic bridge and a standard Mustang trem that was very good at putting my guitar out of tune: The TOM-style bridge is okaaayyy, except it's pretty rattly. Also, it's the wrong radius - 9.5" on a 7.25" fretboard. So I replaced it with a 7.25" one-piece bridge (and I blocked the trem while I was at it)  Infinitely more stable now, and no buzz from the bridge! Still waiting on parts for the SG.

How do you fix intonation on that bridge? I've seen a fair number of solid bridges like that and I'd like to get rid of the occasional spring rattle in my TOM bridge, but having intonation be off would drive me nuts.

Unfortunately I don't have a strobe tuner to check the intonation with extreme precision, but intonation is fine according to a regular pedal tuner. It's hard to tell in the photo I posted, but the bridge is shaped for intonation - it's not just a straight bar. As long as your bridge's posts were drilled correctly from the factory, it should drop in and work fine. You can see the cut of the bridge a bit better here:

The problem with not having individual saddles is that the guitar is only going to intonate for one particular gauge of strings and one setting for action. Less variability and options, but if you're fantastic at applying the correct amount of fret pressure to intonate to the desired note, it's all good.

I just won this off ebay for $63 The description didn't say much, simply stating it's a Harmony Electric Guitar and that there's some cosmetic wear and tear but fully functioning. Here's hoping for the best!

Glad you've got some good stuff, but I don't have access to a workshop unfortunately so the warehouse sale isn't doing me any good. I unfortunately haven't gotten to play with the axe-fx yet. Waiting in a queue for shipment. I thought Behringer made the TRUTH series? The only MAUDIO speakers I've heard are the AV-40's. The Yamaha's definitely blow those away. They are very flat, very clear, and the low end is pretty adequate using the 8" drivers. The room adjustment settings on the back are nice too. I demoed a few in the same price range locally and to me, they performed the best. Definitely a huge step up from the smaller KRK's I have. Bought this guy a few days ago from a local classified ad. Fender Twin Reverb reissue. It's used, but it's in immaculate condition. It's a really simple amp, but it sounds great, and the reverb on it is amazing. I kind of want to get a looper pedal now though. Also a les paul, but that's a few years old.

 Ibanez AS73T TRC. Not a guitar I would have thought of buying myself (it's a present), but I'm agreeably surprised. Compared to my 335 it's lighter (even with the Bigsby), slightly brighter and yet "rounder" in tone, possibly because of the relatively low output ceramic pick-ups. Has a touch of the 330/Casino sound using the bridge or both pick-ups and a thick, but nicely defined jazzy tone at the neck. This is the second MIC semi-hollow I've received, and like the first one, the Ibanez is flawlessly finished and impeccably set up - the latter may be courtesy of the local guitar shop, as it's stringed with and tuned for a medium gauge set instead of the usual 9s or 10s. Remembering the mid- to late-90s Samick-made Epiphone semis, I like this one better, especially the pick-ups. Very nice no-frills guitar.

The bad thing about getting the HS80M's is I now have to go back and remix everything!  I thought I had mixed things pretty well on my old setup... nope. It's a huge difference and probably one of the best investments I've made. Don't skimp on monitors! I didn't actually listen to the HS50M's because I wanted something with a little more low end/extension. I plan to have my Axe-FX plugged directly into the 80's. I actually have a pair of BX5A's I use for regular 'ol listening, but I have mixed with them, and the difference is night and day. The HS50's are extremely revealing. The BX5A's sound pretty good, but I found it hard to get mixes to translate, the low end especially. The HS50's aren't designed to sound good, they're designed to be accurate, and they are. Most people find them bright and fatiguing on the ear, which they are, but it seems to be just what is needed to get your mixes sounding good on pretty much everything. I'd say go for it, they're really good monitors.
