jjac has been hanging out in GW2 lately. It's really that dead, huh? That's a shame. I was hoping some of the guys I trolled Club Caprice with would still be around.

Sadly, the game's been a bit... slow recently. There was a big update with all the Batman-related stuff, but it was a while since the patch before that, nobody knows when the next patch is (or even what it entails?), and there's nothing quite like the duty officer system in STO here to keep players on for an hour or two flying around looking for good jobs or whatever (Alerts are fun, but fairly simple in comparison). Although I think Cryptic's wanting to add something vaguely similar in the future. Add in the fact that GW2 just came out, Pandaria's due shortly, Borderlands 2 comes out this morning, and all that... yeah probably not going to be too busy for a while. Although there's been a noticeable upswing in activity since the latest patch at least!

Someone stole Cuchulain again when they merged to PWAccounts. I'm back as Kuhulin. Let's see what's new. Edit: Oh god, the F2P system is even worse then CoH's was. I guess I'll go gold if I decide to stick around. Cuchulain fucked around with this message at 08:05 on Sep 18, 2012 |

Just took advantage of that 33% off Gold for 3 months deal to check out this game again. I promptly spent 5 or so hours fretting over my old free form character before going with pretty much the exact same thing I had two years ago. I'm not quite as god-like as I used to be, but Regeneration still seems pretty boss. Sadly, I have some mild energy problems when I forget to use my Force Shield. Anyone have any experience with the modern Telekinesis melee powers and want to share some tips?

Veterans are getting some free crap tomorrow. There's 3 tiers of gifts: 6 months plus, 1 year plus, and 2 years plus. A 1 year guy on the forums said he got 2 Action Figures (Nighthawk and Nighthawk's plane), a set of 3 grab bags (Halloween, Mountain, Drifter) and 2 titles. 2 years adds the Command Jet, and a set of 3 heirlooms primaries. All of this stuff is supposed to be earnable for participating in the event as well, regardless of account age. Aphrodite fucked around with this message at 20:28 on Sep 20, 2012 |

Where Between "Workable" and "Too quirky to be useful" would a Melee character be, if they used CON as their main superstat and STR as one of their secondaries? Or is it just as reasonable/less stupid to have CON be a secondary and rely on dropped gear to keep your CON up while running Defiance? Or would Main Super Stat Con just be wasted by diminishing returns? I'm more curious about baseline Pre-Gear results. Also curious what the path to being as tough as possible while running Melee Damage Role is. Just pick up Unstoppable/Way Of The Warrior and go to town as usual?
|
# ? Sep 24, 2012 07:11 |

Pretty easy, really? It's good to have Strength raised if you're going melee, but if you have it as a secondary superstat that's plenty. And if you just want to be "tough" I'd go for Defiance or Invulnerability; the game's easy enough that you'll still kill random poo poo fine without an offensive superstat. In practice though... yeah, Unstoppable/WotW is plenty in most cases and lets you plow through stuff faster.

Section Z posted:Where Between "Workable" and "Too quirky to be useful" would a Melee character be, if they used CON as their main superstat and STR as one of their secondaries? I have a build that aims to do exactly this. One of the best tanks I've used to do alerts to this day, though you might want to swap out some of the high-knockback skills for alternatives. Toughness in the melee role is the difference between just taking a passive, and taking a passive alongside a backwards lunge, a specific block ability, enough active defenses, and the right superstats and specializations. And yes, this build can out-aggro and cleanly out-damage all but the most optimized of defensively-built tanks. Basically, the class-based spec trees are really useful. You could feasibly make any character type use CON as a superstat, or even the primary superstat. Just pick spec trees that compliment CON's abilities or correct what's weaker in the build. Just pick spec trees that compliment CON's abilities or correct what's weaker in the build. This is pretty much what I've done on my Regen/Resurgence Melee Telekinesis character. Ego/Con/Dex. I'm not the king of damage or tanking, but I put out respectable damage for my crappy gear, and if there is no tank, I grab aggro and don't die to anything but Gravitar's spam attacks. I solved my energy problems by grabbing +55 Recovery on top of my +CostReduction, which puts my equilibrium above the cost of my most expensive charge up. At this point, it's all about getting purples in all of my slots, and better mods in each of them. That, and aggro generation. I use Bulwark to allow me to generate aggro in Hybrid mode, which lets me keep my optimal DPS while still tanking, but I'm not specced to generate aggro on my highest damage combo. I have Challenging Strikes on Ego Blade Frenzy, but it's only a rank 1, just there for really clearing trash, and I have Challenging Blow (or whatever the guard-breaker taunt is) on my charge. I THOUGHT that'd give me enough aggro to out-aggro anything but dedicated tanks, but I'm wondering if I need that R2 in Frenzy to pull that off. Or if it is just a gear discrepancy not allowing me to hit hard enough to out-aggro the pure DPSers. The build is also limited a bit by theme, since the character is supposed to utilize the telekinetic blades for all her attacks, plus the wave and burst knockbacks. Build here, if someone wants to inspect it. My crappy stats, too.

I was considering swapping resurgence for the martial arts heal with the advantage that makes it heal more when you dodge, and maybe getting the advantage on ego weaponry that heals you as well. Good idea? Also specialisations, I have little to no idea what I'm doing there beyond taking the ones that increase numbers related to things I want to do.

This post is specifically for Warmachine, you could potentially swap out R3 and Thought Sever in Ego Weaponry and take Siphoning Strikes instead. The heal on Siphoning Strikes is based off Ego and Crit Chance/Severity and healing also creates aggro on targets you've engaged in combat. I use that on my Disciple to be able to tank things short of oneshots and this can free up your slotted and active defense into something else, maybe Lightning Reflexes/Bountiful Chi Resurgence with advantage. Other choices include Id Mastery for a huge damage increase for threat purposes along with a smaller but not bad resist to all damage and a cost decrease for TK attacks and instead take something like Conviction instead of Resurgence to buff up your max health for the next big hit. e; Doesn't Regeneration's Damage Resistance go down as you get hit? That would make it even easier to switch to Id Mastery for the static damage resist and increased damage which translates to more self healing from Siphoning Strikes. Thinking about popping in for a few days since CoH is getting the axe -- Can someone tell me whats changed since, uh, release. Last thing I recall was the XP gain nerf across the board that left a huge content gap between 34-37; and nothing to do at end game.

I have good news about one of those things, Lemuria and Vibora Bay give you plenty of stuff to do in the lategame, although you might recall the CoX lead dev having very legitimate issues with Lemuria. Alerts also basically give you a 'skip this level range' option, but they aren't 'content' per se. As for the end game, uhh... I hope you enjoy Nemcon?

Even excluding the ridiculously farmable XP alert system, the gaps are pretty solidly closed. Heck, you can get from level 30 to 40 (or 39 at worst) by doing nothing but missions inside Monster Island. Barring that, there's also Lemuria missions and Vibora Bay. As for endgame content, they've added a few level 40 lairs (Nemcon, Therakiel's Temple), though I haven't had much luck picking up on these. There's also the Gravitar alert that becomes unlocked at level 35, which (provided you're up to dealing with extremely high damage cylinder effects) can net you some Questionite rather quickly.

Endgame's still the weakness, but with the way ChampO's set up there's a lot of content (like the featured missions and such) that scale all the way to the end so that's not quite as big a problem as it sounds.

So I hopped back into CO, and had a quick question: do the CO game time cards from Atari still work? Amazon has a pretty amazing deal on 'em and I'd love to buy a couple, but I don't wanna shell out money for something if PWE is gonna come back and say it's not valid. I tried Googling but the results were pretty nebulous so I figured I'd check with you fine folks first.

It's been mentioned before in the thread, but a caveat for folks wanting to take advantage of that: if you're currently using one of the discount 3/6 month plans, you'll need to cancel that and lose the discount before you can use a time card. This probably won't matter for most people here since the cards are rather drastically discounted, but something to note just in case.

Does Presence still work as the threat modifier stat? The unofficial (less-useless) wiki says it does, but it also doesn't have Ego updated as being the ranged damage stat so I don't know what's up with that. I just want to punch people really hard without being the target of their retaliatory fury, is that too much to ask?

Next phase of the Destroid Invasion event starting up after maintenance tomorrow, big ol' lv60 robots that will need big groups to take down. They drop Champion Summons, in both temporary and far-more-rare permanent variations. So that might be cool. Or it might be ignored if those summons suck.

I'm not seeing it offhand in character creation for Dual blades, single blades, or heavy weapons. Are you unable to Wield a baseball bat in this game? I'm not seeing one Or is it hopefully an unlockable that doesn't show up until you actually have it? (which I doubt). I just want to be a guy hitting Villains with a baseball bat as a flimsy excuse to go to the Super Hero Club. Or some other 'picked this up off the ground/for cheap' non sword/mace. Just an update, I got the game card codes (they offered to just send the codes without having to wait for the card) and applied one successfully. Stupid question time: I got 2 60-day time card codes, should I apply 'em both or wait to use the 2nd one after the first one runs out? Whenever I subbed to an MMO previously, I always just used a credit card. Figured I'd just ask, now I'm off to retcon some of my previous Gold characters.

Which means taking one of the predetermined archetypes instead of the freeform power selection subscribers get. Most of said archetypes aren't too terrible. Note that if you convert them down now, you can't convert them back up if you later choose to resub. You can convert a character once, period. In either direction, but only once per character.
