so it turns out that, besides the weird semi-hungarian notation names for its internal funcs and the part where you specify task stack in words rather than bytes, freertos is actually really nice, and as a bonus the sprintf implementation it provides is way waaaaaay nicer than gnu sprintf

it would be nice if i could have a task block on whether any of several queues are updated, but i think what i'll wind up doing is have it block on one queue fed by several things that tag what their data is. not that ugly a workaround
