I just got off the phone with my mom and she mentioned her phone bill, does this sound right, and is there anything she can do it lower it? It's quite difficult getting reliable information from her because she paraphrases everything and only tells me what she thinks matters but I tried and here's what I have: The line is a 700 minute family shared plan with 4 lines: - Line 1: $50 for the plan, $29.99 for "email and web unlimited", $9.99 for the line*, $6.99 for insurance - Line 2: $29.99 for "email and web unlimited", $9.99 for the line, $6.99 for insurance - Line 3: $30 for "data package 2 GB", $9.99 for the line, no insurance (iPhone) - Line 4: $9.99 for the line** Notes: * I told her that it makes absolutely no sense that the primary line has a $50 charge for the plan and then a $10 charge for the "line" but she insisted it was the way it was. ** This is a dumbphone line that I guess she wanted to cancel but was cheaper to pay out the contract (until January) than to pay an ETF. I have no idea how long she's been paying this for but whatever. --- So I'm guessing the data plans on line 2 and 3 are grandfathered data plans because they specifically say unlimited, and the third line says 2 GB? Frist of all, is there any way to lower this bill? It seems pretty standard smart phone data + additional line to me so I can't think of anything. I'm just really iffy about the additional "line" on the primary line. I'm also confused because while my mom kept telling me $50 for the plan, she sent me a picture that had a charge for $44 for "account charges and credit" which I'm guessing is a discounted $50? Second, while the first two lines are using Android phones and don't need SMS plans (Google Voice), the third one (my mom's) is an iPhone and she's trying to use Google Voice on it but really it's just a pain in the rear end because it doesn't integrate into iOS like it does on the Android phones that I really want her to just delete the god drat app and pay for a normal SMS plan because I'm tired of troubleshooting why her google voice isn't working over Skype. Is there some special plan she could pick up here that would give her data and SMS? e: I see. Ok, makes sense. I never had Verizon so I didn't know. Remember how plans used to be "$69.99 for the first two lines, $9.99 for additional lines"? They still are, but they've changed how it's charged. It used to be that the primary line would get charged $60 and each other line got charged $9.99. Now they've broken out that $60 charge for the first line as a $50 "account charge" and made it so each line (including the primary) has a $9.99 line charge. Same amount of money (within a penny), different line items. They made that change back in the spring of this year, if I remember correctly.

Is there any benefit of buying a phone SGS III for example at full retail and doing a month to month (other than not being in a contract)? It seems the monthly price would be the same.

You can buy the Developer Edition model from Samsung which comes with an unlocked bootloader, should you decide to install CM or something at some point. It's not strictly necessary to do so right now, as an unlocked bootloader for locked/Verizon sold/subsidized model leaked out, but if you were purchasing retail anyways, I might consider it. The downside is that it only has a 30 day warranty. 2. If you have unlimited data, you can keep unlimited data. z06ck posted:It seems the monthly price would be the same.

I'm sure we could do a ToL, but if I don't have to, that'd be great.

Currently on an out of contract AT&T family plan (4 lines), was thinking of switching to Verizon (all 4 lines would be iPhone 5's) since their coverage seems to be better at some key locations where the phones get used. Couple questions: 1. I'd like to make the switch, but it isn't strictly necessary, plus the AT&T plan is grandfathered on unlimited data. I related that fact to a Verizon rep on the phone, and in a corporate store, and asked them if they could do a better deal than AT&T's retention department. Both stated they weren't allowed to negotiate at all. When we originally joined AT&T from T-Mobile, they payed for a $200 ETF fee on one of the lines, plus threw in some other sweeteners, I guess Verizon isn't as desperate for new customers? 2. If I were able to get an employee discount, can I apply it to my bill after I signed up for Verizon service? So if I pre-order the phones online now, once I receive them can I go down to the corporate store and show them the work ID badge and get the discount applied?

It's very unlikely they will give you any incentive for switching over. For the discount there's a page on their website where you enter your work email and then click on a link that gets sent to that address and the discount gets applied. Eventually.

I have a droid razr and it is starting to suck. Battery could be better but the main thing that is really pissing me off is that messaging list takes a few seconds to update from the number to the name. There should be no lag in that at all. It should be loving immediate.

Messages are limited to 200 per contact, but only have one contact with that many messages I could try lowering it to 100 or something. Probably have a total of 300 messages right now. Yea maybe I need to clear some of this poo poo out.

If the SMS database is too big it's going to rescan the entire DB when reopening the text app. The default of 200 sms + 50 mms is just too high for a lot of devices, even today. I usually drop that to 100+10 and it seems to do okay.

Does the promo material say 4.0.4 or 4.1.1 (if you can't say, that's fine)? I'm curious as to whether or not the JB builds are done for it to launch with JB or if it's going to launch with ICS and go to JB like the M.

I finally convinced my boss to let me switch back to Android! I'm on a corporate plan with an iPhone 4 and will be switching to a GNex which I bought used. Can I just stop by a Verizon corporate store on the way into work and pick up a sim and then when I get to work my boss (the account manager) and I can transfer the device over like normal? We swap devices on lines all the time but we've not gone from a 3G to 4G device before.

If I were to guess, $599 for the HD and $649 or $699 for the HD MAXX. I would say $549 for the HD and $649 for the MAXX, but I think the M already occupies $549.

I was all amped to buy this outright but now I'm getting phone fatigue I think. My Galaxy Nexus hasn't done anything particularly offensive to me for awhile and JB should be coming to my Razr soon. As much as I want the massive battery life of the MAXX, I don't think I can justify spending upwards of $700 for it right now when quad core Krait phones are starting to hit. I'll probably wait and see what pans out for this occam codename and the nexus program in general. I have less than a year left on my Verizon contract anyways and I'm just not sure I want to give up my subsidy to keep unlimited, but if I'm going to be forced to a tiered plan I might as well evaluate all my options and I'm just SO drat tired of hoop jumping around Verizon hardware restrictions.

It's going to take a long time for Google and Motorola Mobilty to full integrate. Assuming Google even wants to do that. There's a pretty good chance Google only bought them for the patents so that they can better defend Android against Apple.

It's very obviously less about the operating system and more about the fact that we're on second-gen LTE radios.
