How many times did Seinfeld copy scenes from movies? There was: The Junk Mail, with Newman's warning speech ("it may be somebody you know") lifted from the movie Three Days of the Condor The episode also referenced Absence of Malice, parodying Wilford Brimley's scene in that movie with his scene in the show. The Package, where Newman interrogates Jerry, I think it's parodying when he interrogates Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct. The Doorman plays homage to the movie Marathon Man, with the scene starting at 30 seconds (turn your sound waaay down): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAlmES6-EY0 The Cadillac: The chase scene between Newman and the cable guy is a parody of Vertigo. Anything else? There's gotta be a lot more.

See Julia Louis-Dreyfus clenching her fist there? She was digging her nails into her hand to keep herself from laughing. You can even see her break a bit right after Stiller 'stops short'. I can sympathize, Jerry Stiller would kill me in any scene he's in.Coffee And Pie posted:The "Magic loogie" scene is taken straight out of JFK.

EDIT: What is the second half of the "stop short" motion supposed to be? Stopping short is slamming on the breaks to cop a tit feel right? Is the second half just a Jerry Stiller-ism?

Loving Life Partner posted:Imagine my face seeing JFK years after that episode. Wayne Knight's character's name in JFK was Numa. I think the stop short-motion is meant to be vague. Seinfeld did a lot of stuff with euphenisms when it came to sexual things, most famously the "stop short" move and also "the move" Puddy stole from Jerry. It was a fairly raunchy sitcom for its time, both in terms of era and timeslot, so there's a lot of ambiguous descriptions when it comes to sexual stuff.

Stare-Out posted:Wayne Knight's character's name in JFK was Numa. I don't think they would get away with even half the stuff they did on the show back then nowadays. On the DVD's they revealed that Larry David was a master at manipulating the censors by demanding stuff that was much more lurid then what they really wanted.

The Junk Mail: Three Days of the Condor, Absence of Malice The Package: Basic Instinct The Doorman: Marathon Man The Cadillac: Vertigo The Bris: The Godfather The Muffin Tops: La Femme Nikita, Pulp Fiction The Mom and Pop Store: Midnight Cowboy The Boyfriend: JFK (How could I have forgotten this one!) Somebody on the internet has probably already compiled a massive list already, but eh, it was a thought I had while watching The Doorman.
