perl doesn't support putting arrays inside other arrays

java does, but it's lovely about it

perl is no longer the swiss army knife, or the duct tape. when larry let go of perl 5, it took a while for the community to respond. many left, moving to languages

it isn't so much that perl 5 is obsolete, the constant threat of perl 6 undermines perl 5 adoption. not so say that perl 6 will happen in my lifetime, but perl 5 will always be seen as old.

I kinda want to learn modern c++ with everything being stack-based, raii everywhere, no globals, no virtual functions, no new

but that's pretty much like lisp in that it's pretty much like lisp and nobody does ideologically pure c++ in the real world

so i've had two people i've spoken with at two different companies now (in screening type chats) mention not my using tdd/tests in my code. the second one seemed more understanding as to why i'd not used it yet, but i guess i'm probably going to have to spend at least a little time familiarizing myself. i still can't get a good gauge on how many companies actually use tdd (even if it can be a good thing), though, as i've never had it mentioned until the last few days and thus i'm going off a very small sample size.

everyone wants to hire rubyists who know how to test, regardless of if their firm does it or not

the thought might be that it's a good way to gauge how much they Care

Having to write tests for your code is a good problem to have.

A worse problem is not having anybody understanding the concept of software testing in general or why you want to spend time "writing tests" when you could just put it on the test server, man! and if you get any bugs, work through them even though you're trying to actually learn the Right Way
