Never heard of that one, but there's so many drat labels I've bought stuff on I can't keep track. I took a listen on Beatport; not into diva stuff but I do appreciate hearing some acid.

Also probably worth mentioning Freerange, Drumpoet Community, Night Drive Music and Neurotraxx

Do any of you guys follow music in the burning man scene? It's a little off the beaten path, but there's been a big trend the last few years towards deeper, more techy, more minimalistic sounds, especially as the crowd trends later and later in the evening and into the sunrise. Great for the open desert. One of the big crews that this thread might be into is Robot Heart: https://soundcloud.com/robot-heart

Some standouts from this last year on playa:

Mike Khoury: https://soundcloud.com/robot-heart/mike-khoury-robot-heart-burning-man-2012

Hoj(my favorite set from this year): https://soundcloud.com/robot-heart/hoj-robot-heart-burning-man-2012

These guys played with Lee Burridge (I know there's some Lee fans in this thread!) on Friday night/Saturday morning out on playa, and it was without a doubt one of the best shows I've seen in years. The sets trend from pretty house-y to downright minimal depending on the time of night they were playing. But all in all, they're fantastic mixes.

Bonus shot of the soundsystem they roll around in:

Thanks for the link.. I am really digging the Yentalbeats mix but I will give them all a listen. This one reminds me a lot of what I have heard Lee Burridge or Lawler play when I have seen them at Winter Music Conference.

Listened to Khoury's mix as well, good one!

There's nothing quite like being up next to that bus when the music is going off. If there's one thing they do well, it's big spaces - I've been dying to make it out to NYC for one of their parties. They're probably one of the biggest reasons I got into the lower, deeper side of house. Very cool video.

It's kinda heavy. Gonna do a slow/warmup one this weekend. Probably end up darker though.

e: I cant believe that blawan/surgeon ep has 23,000+ plays after a week and it's not even out for another month. I don't think i've ever seen hype like that for proper techno.
The first track is amazing, but I can guarantee there are going to be some nights where it's played twice by different dj's.

Well you're not a bad DJ are you? Haha really enjoyed this mix. The transitions are excellent and feels like one long track; is this purely down to the track selection or something else? It's the part of DJ'ing that is still really hit and miss for me.

Thanks :)
It's all track selection. Whenever you listen to music at home or otherwise, always be thinking about how it might work alongside other tracks you know - if it has similar sounds or a similar kind of flow. You dont need an intricate knowledge of every part of every track you own, just have a good idea of the mood of it and the type of groove it's got.
Once you get into the habit you wont be able to stop doing it at first and it'll be annoying at clubs, but it'll help. Eventually it'll become second nature, you'll be playing a track and the next one which is perfect for the moment will pop straight into your head without needing much thought.

edit: A great piece of advice someone gave me starting out was to keep my 'current' tracks to one side, at around 20-30 (I started with way less) and swap out a few a week. know those few like the back of your hand and listen to them all the time. It's easier to figure out what works when using a smaller sample size. It'll naturally grow in size on it's own as you become comfortable with the tracks in it, but that will keep it refined. When practicing, alternate between sets out of the current lot (record them, don't allow yourself to make mistakes) and do sets out of the stuff that hasn't made it in (gently caress around all you like, experiment more), and you'll find out very very quickly what works and what doesn't.

I still use that system now - but my current tracks number over 100, and i've got 2 variations for warming up & peak time.
