So my DIYAutotune shopping list is a DIYPNP, the gubbins to hook it to a USB port on my laptop, the IAT you linked, and that's it? Do I need a MAF delete kit in addition to the new sensor?

The GM AIT replaces the MAF.

Don't you need a MAP sensor too or is that just for when you're turboing? Edit: Oh hey, it's built into the PNP. I remember when people were all buying GM sensors and calibrating their MSes to work with them. craig588 fucked around with this message at 03:13 on Jan 7, 2013 |

I am trying to replace my starter on my 91LE without bursting into tears. I have big hands and big arms, and...well, the process isn't leaning in my favor. Do you guys know any tricks to this? I have the car jacked up and the wheel off, and three bolts and nuts that appeared to be keeping the the thing on, but it still won't budge. Any ideas?

There's a bracket on the back of it that connects to the engine block. Here's a great picture of it: http://www.miataturbo.net/wtb-7/wtb-starter-bracket-1-8-picture-inside-27046/ When you reassemble it you can leave that bracket off and save a few ounces. If you already have it off then you just need to hit it a few times to knock it loose, there's nothing else holding it.

I've got both bolts on the left hand side off and the bracket itself - I can't get my hands in a position to take off the wiring though.

Both? There should be 3 bolts holding the starter to the bell housing, I assumed when you said 3 bolts you meant those 3 because that's a pretty standard configuration for all cars. Here's a picture of the bellhousing to give you an idea of which one you missed Edit: Even better, I found one of the starter craig588 fucked around with this message at 05:34 on Jan 7, 2013 |

I had to rescue my buddy in his Escort GT and a 1" coolant hose that seems to run the length of the motor under the instake manifold had burst. I cut off the end and re-clamped it to get him home. What is the name of this hose?

Might go to the oil cooler and TB. I even did an EGT swap in my miata and hardly remember. I'll look at some old pics.

It's not the TB hoses but it is nearby. It went into a fitting somewhat under the distributor, looked like the head/block. I couldn't see where the other end went, but it ran at least most of the length of the top of the block under the intake. Very very tight fit reaching down there. I'd find it myself but I don't know where to find diagrams for it.

I was driving to work today on the highway and my soft top flew open at 60MPH and it was 10F outside. The top did not fold correctly so I had to pull over and latch it properly. I was putting my interior back in last night and I must have not fully clipped down the top latches! loving scary and amazing I didn't crack the rear glass!

saint gerald posted:The PO put a Racing Beat intake and K&N on there, so that should be taken care of. Yeah, what they said about the MAF. You'll need to have a bung put on your intake for the sensor. Put it in the coolest place possible, so with your RB intake make on the right side, just before the filter? DIY's IAT kit includes nifty little wire connectors that snap right onto the original MAF harness. Very little wiring is required.

What am I doing wrong? I did the starter with the engine in the car and I do remember it being a bitch. The bolts I got to underneath the car, not through the wheel well. It's a tight fit and you probably need a few flex sections and extensions. Strangest failure ever. Was probably due to my clutch and flywheel coming loose (flywheel bolts loosened) and smacking into it a few times as it rotated. I replaced the engine and trans but reused the started. For about 5-10 starts before it broke. Suburban Dad fucked around with this message at 00:19 on Jan 10, 2013 |

Seating advice? I need to get under my bar to pass the broom stick test. Im 5'11" with 34" waist. I test fit a friends Sparco Pro ADV, I was still a little too tall and the seat is way too big for a miata. Heres one with me on the floor. Note the needed gangster lean to get under the bar.

Bolt a kirkey or something like a Sparco Tec straight to the floor? Here's a good source of info for racing seats: http://www.miataturbo.net/race-prep-75/mounting-race-seats-45150/

I found it impossible to really pass that test at 6'1 with cutting off the rear seat humps and bolting it straight to the floor (Sparco Sprint V). Not long after I sold the car. gently caress that noise, next time I was a track car I'll buy a coupe and not have to put $1000 into a car to find out I still don't fit.

The mailman came. Looks like I've got a busy few weeks. I'll install the wideband this weekend and feed the stock ECU with that for a bit, just to get my feet wet. Meanwhile, I can get working on that Megasquirt (and plowing through Corky Bell's book, as well as the one on EFI that was recommended in this thread). I have an autocross next weekend, but maybe on MLK Day I'll have the chance to replace the injectors, the rest of the sensors, and get to tuning. Oh, and put XP back on this old EEE PC I have lying around -- that's going to be the perfect tuning laptop.

So in the time since I posted that I passed out and my buddy went and looked at it and he said he hates how small the car is, "miatas are gay" etc etc. He didn't drive it, he just went and looked at it. Thing is, we still had made an appointment to go drive it tomorrow so since I have the morning off I'm gonna go drive me a Miata.

We just got back from checking it out. The interior is trashed, the CEL and brake lights are on, the top is torn and slashed on one side, it smelled like mold inside the car. I was told the odometer stopped working "about 20,000 miles ago." So even if he didn't think it was a tiny gay car I'd have warned him off of it.
