zed shaw seems like he's made his entire career on 'telling it like it is' even if he's bullshitting

i argued with him a while ago on twitter about how some article about a sexist tech ad wasn't personally attacking him as a programmer and he blocked me for it

As tef said, stuff is free online so I don't exactly mind where you get it from.

No Starch seems to prefer if you get it from No Starch, and maybe they send me more money, but I'm not sure. Just pick whatever's convenient for you.

Can we just make Zed king of the web?

finally found time to watch this

I don't agree with OOP being hard to teach, going by his step-by-step example

code:
> ls -l
> python myscript.py foo bar
def mycommand(foo, bar):
the next step should be

C++ code:
struct myoperation { int foo; int bar; int operator()() { return foo+bar; } };

int main() { myoperation op = { 3, 2 }; printf("result is %d", op()); }
and from there you can start to split that one big operation into smaller pieces

liskov substitution principle is hard to teach so don't teach that, teach that code and its data together make an object

also for a real-world example of objects in action, L1 cache could be thought of as taking a bunch of objects and bringing them closer to where the CPU is

it's way overrated

I wrote a c++ example here http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2773485&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=320#post411788660 and then started thinking "in what ways does this conform to LSP and when does it violate it and how might it be fixed"

and I was well on my way going cross-eyed when I realized I had been staring into an abyss of my own creation
