After Alien Conquest and Space Police III, Galaxy Squad seems a little lame. I'm glad they're trying at least. From like 2001-2007 there were no space sets thanks to Star Wars.

Galaxy Squad feels like Mars Mission in a lot of ways, but crossed with some Alien Conquest so I can dig it. And the next wave is looking pretty promising: http://www.flickr.com/photos/92090133@N04/8431306375/in/photostream/

They have sort of the same problem Alien Conquest had with the ADF ships-- the alien ones are way cooler. Then again, I am not a 10 year old boy so maybe the space marine stuff is way more rad to them.

Something like they did in the mid 80's with the Armor Shop, Blacksmith Shop, Siege Tower, Battering Ram and Knights Castle.

The biggest set has, what, 4 figures? Maybe they should have named it Galaxy One Dude and a Robot instead, because that's what the sets feel more like.

I'm liking the look of those new castle sets. It looks like the older castles, with less fancy poo poo and more stuff like catapults, actual walls, plenty of standard troops, etc.

smackfu posted:If you collect Architecture sets, Amazon has the Brandenburg Gate one for $23 instead of $35. Follow-up: So this set is fine, I guess. Like most of the architecture sets, lots of repetition (stack 4 cylinders, 8x). And this one has the fun of placing 80 cheese slopes for the roof and they have to be aligned perfectly. The horses on top should really be the same green as the roof, but I assume that's a part color availability issue. There is some clever stuff on the roof to get a half stud overhang, but other than that, it's nothing special.

My son got the large Galaxy Squad spaceship, and it's really great, he built it all himself(he's 6) and it's really solid with some neat features. None of the other current space ships catch my eye, but the large one is really cool.

I know they don't want to step on the toes of their LotR line, but I really want to see some old factions return - forestmen, vikings, Wolfpack - and see a set other than a castle, catapult or carriage.

I think a lot of the galaxy squad stuff is cool, but only the $20 dollar fighter interests me. I've definitely lost a desire for "crazy" sets and am more interested in practical stuff. Like that awesome recycling truck from last year. That said, new bug fighter looks absurd and amazing. Great to see some amazing creativity from LEGO.

The huge technic crane is looking even better, 4 of the 5 axles are steered, outriggers extend and raise the crane, and the boom extends to 70cm. I read somewhere that its supposed to be 2600 pieces, which would be 500 or so more than the unimog. http://www.flickr.com/photos/thirdwig/8433049298/in/photostream The tow truck also doesn't look bad: http://www.flickr.com/photos/92090133@N04/8431317343/in/set-72157632649266021 E: video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=LeGTASiVbNk Ika fucked around with this message at 22:48 on Jan 31, 2013 |
