With 65, I wouldn't start on Destruction of Small Ideas either because the production on that is very... unique. If you like albums that sound like they were recorded in a shed, you'll like it. Personally, I hate it, which is a shame because there's some really good songs on there.

thehustler posted:We Were Exploding Anyway is still really good even if you liked the first 3 more. They are working on their 5th album at the moment. Not sure where that will go. I'm hoping for more stuff like their Silent Running soundtrack. That was amazingly good. I've never quite gotten the dislike for WWEA. I adore 65dos but rarely go back to the early stuff, I think WWEA and Silent Running are by far the best things they've done. Never really considered them post-rock either though. Silent Running is the closest they've come, but the early stuff to me is IDM/glitch-rock (especially the b-sides on Unreleased/Unreleasable which are super). Also, I'm really lazy about ever changing the wallpaper on my laptop so this has been my background forever:

I personally adore 65dos, but yeah, there's a range. Starting with One Time For All Time they become pretty amazing, but the stuff before that can be grating.

While veering off post-rock completely now, I'm plugging Paul of 65's solo album because it sold all of five copies and was amazing. Plus it had one of my favorite videos of all time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-KG7bhqUrg

Well that Spectrum loading screen was an unexpected trip back to my 5th birthday, thanks :') Can't remember if this has been brought up already by Liam's MMIX is a great little album, with simple but hard-hitting melodies. Very early-Pelican sounding (tracks IV and VII are standouts for me). http://liampostrock.bandcamp.com/

There's much better stuff on that album https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjYTLoeAKPs

Spotify recommended me Final Days Society, I don't think I've seen them mentioned (recently at least). They're pretty amazing, kind of a cross between early Sigur Ros, Hrsta and Windy & Carl. Check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3lGcqn5GQI

We've had four amazing years and reached goals we never thought possible. The support our fans have shown us has been absolutely inspiring. You have been amazing to us. Franco has joined the Army and leaves March, 18. Duke has joined a music project with live members Ian, and Jake which will be announced shortly. We still have vinyl left and all orders will be handled by Walk-In Records from this point on. Thanks for taking the ride with us, we love you for it.

I've fallen behind with this thread and didn't play catch up properly. To comment on the above, we were working on new recordings which I'm pretty bummed to abandon. We recorded drums and one of the guitars. Not to throw salt in the wound but the 4 songs we were working on were some of my favorites and really showed a maturity and evolution in our writing style. There are some live recordings of the songs but that's about it.

That's most likely why I wasn't hugely into it at first, it's much less raucous than most of the music I've been listening to, which is saying a lot because I think Maybeshewill and ASIWYFA are too fast and loud.

I just wanted to pimp iamthemorning, whose album you can get for whatever you want here: http://iamthemorningband.bandcamp.com/ Being bandcamp, there are also samples of their songs if you don't want to commit to a download. I'm not entirely sure I would actually describe them as post-rock, but they describe themselves as post-rock, so I guess that counts? But violins, pianos, and female vocals all hit my sweet spots, so give them a listen! Too bad they are apparently based in Russia so I will likely never see them in concert. The singer for iamthemorning also did guest vocals for a song for another band called I Am Waiting For You Last Summer, whose name gives me a sort of apoplectic fit when I start thinking about its tense for too long. The song is called Obsessed and is more traditional post-rock, albeit with some electronic bits, but not too much: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83VKOmuolLE Hope you guys enjoy!

If you want acoustic post-rock, you want the first self-titled album by Rex. Their second and third records are perfectly fine too, but are more in the Will Oldham New American Folk direction. Unfortunately searching YouTube for them is a nightmare because there's a Christian rock band named "Rex Band" apparently. I believe Spotify has the album though. I did find one song, but it's somewhat different to the rest of the album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ry2BlWaeD3Y

On the subject of Calla, they're kind of broke. Please money them. Additionally, I noticed a bit in that Humanfly song where there's an electric guitar and just an electric guitar and not a ton of reverb. That threw me for a loop, haven't heard that noise in a while. Cymbal Monkey fucked around with this message at 23:26 on Feb 13, 2013 |

What's strange is that A God Among Insects is basically a hardcore album with somewhat weird production values, and then from II on out they're suddenly post-metal or whatever you want to call it. Seemed a really abrupt and bizarre change, although I like both their styles. I think you can still see the earlier influence in some of the song names (This is where your parents hosed comes to mind).
