Snowy posted:Not only that, but I get unreasonably angry about almost every fake movie poster I see. Especially when it's for sale. Make some original artwork, people. Minimalist posters seem to be pretty much made by people who fancy themselves as 'creative' but lacking in the technical skill required to actually create any artwork.

Some giant posters for Jack the Giant Slayer, so that you can see all the tiny details. FEE FYE FOE FUMM (Is that Terrence Howard?) Uhh...FALLON? As in Jimmy Fallon? They somehow made characters more ugly and off-putting than Mars Needs Moms and stuck them on the posters. bowser fucked around with this message at 19:03 on Feb 16, 2013 |

Every time I see a poster or trailer for that film that has one of the giants in it, I am repulsed. Note to Brian Singer: that is not a good thing. I know that's what they're going for, but making people disgusted is not an effective strategy to get people into your film.

Hm. Hmmmm. No, the Mars Needs Moms poster is still more repulsive. Note that LOTROBBIT has big ugly monsters the heros beat up too, but they didn't put Goblin King's neckwaddle front and center on their poster. I honestly don't feel too negative about this but not positive either. Your movie has big ugly giants. Ok. Lots of movies have big ugly monsters.

Well that's just it. At best it recalls John Carter where someone with a soul was put in charge of marketing, and at worst it casts a vote of no confidence behind the marketers in the human aspect of the movie.

There's no sense of scale in those posters. If they were completely textless, no title or "cute" tagline, you might think that they're just a bunch of ugly guys, and not necessarily giants. Also I'm tempted to say this was intentional.

Maybe those posters want us to see the ugly faces stabbed by seeing the movie. I agree, a better poster would've had a sense of scale, like David vs goliath. But breaking up characters into a series of posters with text on them like that is either some dumbtrend or a bad artist keeps getting work.

These posters don't make sense to me because usually the headshot style posters are best used to communicate, "Hey, [CELEBRITY] and/or [FAMOUS CHARACTER] is in this movie!" Whereas I have no point of reference for these grotesques. It reminds me of those posters for Green Lantern with the weird CG aliens in generic poses with their character names on top, like I was supposed to know who they were and get excited.

Unfortunately there's not enough Green Lantern fans to turn a profit on a big-budget movie like that. So they should've cut out all the stupid alien poo poo and made it a movie about one dude. It seemed to work well for every other superhero who didn't need an entire cast of friends to carry the movie.

There's a difference between casually introducing all of these outlandish concepts (the Marvel stuff, for all it's faults, has resurrected all of these characters nobody gives a flying gently caress about) and pretending you already care. The flippant attitude about it just makes it funnier, like you're uncool for not knowing who the Green Lantern's lameass villains are. Oh, you never heard of Hector Hammond?
