I don't know that he's trying to be funny as much as trying to relate and be liked. This is partly why I've stopped listening to his show regularly, he has guests with different views and he just agrees with them. He is constantly seeking approval and he doesn't realize it. It's annoying to hear him agree with everything his guests say. It's one thing to be open minded, it's another thing to agree just because it's more likely to get people to like you.

There are times when listening to Pete Holmes feels like the movie Big; he approaches some things as a 13-year-old in a 33-year-old's body. It's weird to hear someone so quick and loquacious go through thought processes and analyses that I haven't had for at least 10 years; it's part of what makes it inherently fascinating for me but I agree that he should probably watch some different movies and diversify a little.

Mordecai Sanchez posted:have any of you ever used Legal Zoom or Stamps.com? I signed up for stamps.com and didn't realize that its a subscription service where you are charged $15 a month for the privilege of printing postage at home. So when that charge showed up on my credit card I sent them an angry email and challenged the charge. They explained that the subscription service is mentioned on the sign up page but its not upfront. Its well down below the visible part that loads when you go to the site and even then its only a link to the details. So you have to scroll down and notice. Yup, it was my fault for not seeing that & reading the fine print. But I was also more than a little annoyed that none of the podcasters who push stamps.com mention that its a subscription service. They also don't alert you when the trial period is over... At least they cancelled my account without too much hassle. From the email to me from Stamps.com support quote:Stamps.com charges a flat monthly fee to have an account. All open Stamps.com accounts are charged a monthly service fee at the end of the billing cycle, regardless of account activity. Service fees are charged to the credit card on file; billing cycles are based on the exact date the account was created. This information is provided during the Stamps.com registration process and subsequent Welcome Email. So unless you're a guy doing a lot of ebay business don't sign up for stamps.com King Lou fucked around with this message at 17:22 on Feb 13, 2013 |

I did not get the scale. I am sure I would have had to return or pay for it.

Everyone should have a digital scale already anyway. You gotta measure flour by weight, not volume guys!

WoG posted:...then what the hell did you think it was? You thought the business model was 'free scales + free postage printing = profit'? You would think since their business model is selling a subscription, they would mention that in their advertising or somewhere on their homepage. It says there's a 4 week trial there which implies that there is a subscription, but it doesn't actually say it or mention how much this subscription costs. You're being weirdly aggressive about this!

WoG posted:...then what the hell did you think it was? You thought the business model was 'free scales + free postage printing = profit'? I'd think the monthly costs for a stamp printing service would be less than that, yea, and they do a real good job hiding the fee.

I've never checked it out myself, so I'm going off of the CBB ad, but Scott says "free trial" a few times in the commercials. That always implied to me that it was some sort of subscription service.

You got me guys. I didn't realize or think it through. I was more annoyed that they don't say the price ever in any of the ads and that they hide the price in the site. In my email to stamps.com support replied with 6 places they mention the price. All of which are links you have to click. Its not plainly stated anywhere. Now its in the offer details link. I was also expecting an email warning me that the trial period was up or that once it was up I would get an offer to continue at a rate or rates based on use but again that was naive of me. I didn't even end up using it so I can't speak to its ease of use. They were nice enough to cancel it and refund my money.

I'm a big Kevin Smith fan, I love Jay and Silent Bob, and i'm interested in listening to one of their podcasts in which Jason Mewes discusses his battle with heroin addiction. Anyone know which particular podcast episode discusses this the most?

I'm pretty sure that was all they discussed in the beginning of Jay & Silent Bob Get Old. Listen to that podcast from the first ep and I think you'll get what you're looking for.

First, I wanna say dozen or so, of Jay and Silent Bob Get Old are all about Mewes' drug problems and his friends and all, and how he got his life back on track, they're also basically the best episodes.

It looks like David Choe (artist known for making a lot off of facebook stocks, but also tv series Thumbs Up and past podcast Koreans Gone Wild) and porn star Asa Akira called DVDASA. Also has a nsfw videocast if that's your thing. http://dvdasa.com/ Yoshi Obayashi from is also there, so it's pretty much Koreons Gone Bad minus Harry. Fezz posted:Has anyone been listening to Put Your Hands Together? It's the stand up show that replaced Comedy Bang Bang at UCB. It's a lot different from most podcasts in that it's just the stand up sets from the show with a few interview segments. It's similar to all the half hour comedy shows with a bunch of comics. I've listened to the first few episodes. It's nice to have a pure standup podcast, but I'm not crazy about the host (Cameron Esposito). She's got the rhythm and basic emcee patter down, but she's not so great at coming up with funny stuff on the fly. I'm guessing she's a better standup than a host.

I pretty much agree with you about Cameron Esposito but I think it's something she'll definitely grow into the host role. I was surprised when she interviewed Jimmy Pardo she mentioned she did a lot of crowd work because she seemed a little stiff in the regard. That being said, her Terminator/Kristanna Loken story shows she's got the chops to bring the funny on the fly on occasion. Oh, also, Put Your Hands Together introduced me to Ron Funches so it gets a lifetime pass forever and ever.

I don't think there's a You Look Nice Today thread, so I'm asking here. The descriptions of coats of arms in Rampant on a Field and the union logo for Gellies Local 416 are hilarious. I'm sure some fans made these things in Photoshop or something, is there a way I can see these great imaginary symbols?

Considering that it's following Conan, a Conan>Holmes transition makes more sense than Conan>Maron. Maron needs to follow Breaking Bad or something bitter, depressing, but occasionally funny.

Well IFC has always been stuck on some premium tier that I've never had personally but I've always had TBS. That's all the defense I can really offer on saying that. Pretty sure TBS doesn't count as basic cable so I literally didn't know how to refer to it in another way. Sure Marc's history is kind of an albatross but I'd think HBO/showtime/etc would take a chance on him before Pete loving Holmes got a shot on a well known channel. I'm not saying Pete isn't funny but drat with Marons current career I would have thought some major network would pick him up for something.
