A Tales game, for example, would be completely unplayable on a smartphone but is a regular feature on other handhelds. Even something as simple as Paper Mario could be annoying (if not game breaking) with digital controls. A dedicated platform is going to be a better choice until someone figures out how to bring the features of a dedicated platform elsewhere in some fashion. PCs don't suffer from this limitation because you can just plug in a controller, but plugging in a controller to a portable sort of defeats the point.

I really want a new Raidou game. RK2 was the dopest of dope poo poo, and probably the most "SMT" non-mainline SMT game we've seen. It really just feels like they took the God of War approach to their mythological inspirations and just tried to grab as many mythical creatures for you to slaughter as they could.

And I was actually unaware that there were better mobile games of this sort in Japan, thanks Genpei. Even non-twitch RPGs are pretty lovely with touch controls. For example, I've got Wizardry Gaiden VI on iOS, which allows for touch controls or a virtual D-pad. The virtual d-pad is horrible but it's still preferable to the touch controls which are practically unplayable. I think it's less an issue of being timing sensitive and more along the lines of whether the game was specifically designed from the ground up with a touch interface in mind. The only ones that work are the ones that were designed that way, and there are some pretty severe limitations on genres you can realistically pull off while doing that.

In the hidden ending, Lucifer joins you, and you learn that Satan is actually running the demon invasion on orders of YHVH. When you get turned into a godling in the regular ending you're really dooming the rest of humanity to destruction. With Lucifer you kill YHVH (who then says he's just part of the Great Will, a hive-mind of deities that run the universe and the rest are probably going to come get you to avenge him) and with the brains behind the demon invasion gone, Lucifer rounds up all the demons and seals up the hole between dimensions so that humanity can rebuild. The scene then shifts to the underground shelter you start in. You and the rest of the people down there leave the shelter in the now demon-free world to rebuild. There's some interesting stuff down there too, like if you go to the PC you start the game on (the game begins with you playing MT1 on a computer in the shelter) you'll learn that it was built as a prison for Pazuzu (one of the game's main antagonists) by Nakajima, the main character of the first MT. After that there are a bunch of flashbacks to the scenes and bosses you fought. That video starts with the return to the shelter, and skips the last boss fight and its immediate aftermath. ed: It's actually quite clever, especially for the time it was released--the "god is evil" trope has been pretty thoroughly tread by this point but at the time it was pretty novel. It appears to be a very traditional "humans beat evil demons, get rewarded by God" plotline, unless you do make a series of non-obvious decisions throughout the game to scratch the surface and realize what you thought was the story was all a lie. The dynamic in MT2 is different than the SMT games. There's no moral ambiguity or Law vs. Chaos in MT2--God is straight-up villain and Lucifer straight-up hero with no moral grey area like the SMT series. God wants to kill all humanity and doesn't particularly want worshipers or a Thousand Year Kingdom. Lucifer was secret guardian preventing this from happening until Nakajima defeated him and imprisoned him in ice at the end of MT1, allowing Satan (at God's behest) to start global nuclear apocalypse to destroy humanity. In the default ending God probably only turns the hero and heroine into godlings out of fear. I can't handle playing the NES versions because of the way the first person mode scrolls. Of course, if you play the SNES remakes instead, you miss out on the goofy as poo poo monsters in MT1. (Then again you shouldn't play any version MT1 because it kind of sucks)

Ok I'm starting Raidou 1, and am just wondering how to allocate stats. Usually in smt games I go for maxing magic and vitality, but not sure if your main can use magic in this one, so should I roll with strength?

I think Magic affects elemental bullets in Raidou 1. You should primarily roll with strength, though.

Magic usually determines resistance to magical attack. It's very rarely significant though, because of how easy it is to heal. There's usually not enough of a difference between the amounts of damage incurred to make the difference between surviving and dying. The NES version actually manages to look nicer, with close-up portraits for all the characters instead of rough character sprites for everything.

Some of the stats have an effect on the demons you summon and not just Raidou himself. For example magic increases your demons damage. So magic isn't a bad choice. I think the Raidou games aren't as easily affected by just pumping one stat as some of the other SMTs are.

So I've been in the casino in Eternal Punishment for around three hours, I think. I lost track of time. But I'm trying to get the jackpot. How slim are my chances of actually getting it, since I've been playing black jack forever, and it seems virtually impossible to get it in Bingo. I kind of assumed that after this amount of time, I'd get it, considering that there was a rumor devoted to the jackpot in the first place. Am I doing something wrong? I also wish the recent series of Persona games would be a little less teen-y, because the casino is addictive as hell. I have no idea why I skipped it in the original and in Innocent Sin.

So this is long overdue but I bought a ps2 copy of persona 4. Decided it was gonna be a long time before psn gets it and same for me getting a vita. What are some good tips for a beginner? I've finished p3p and that's about it for me.

The first two dungeons are probably going to be the hardest, with the third boss being possibly the hardest in the game. If you played P3P, you should be set for the most part. There are no longer three categories for physical attacks, and there is no longer a tiredness system. Also, you might want to blow through each dungeon in one day, since it takes up the same time slot as most social links, your party isn't available for s.linking when a dungeon hasn't been beaten yet, and because blowing through a dungeon in one day isn't hard at all, with the first and maybe second being possible exceptions. Edit: There are multiple endings in this game, with just about every one of them being a glorified game over. You receive most endings by making wrong choices in very important player-choice segments. A tip for this is to never be satisfied by the "truth" you currently have. Party members and Hermit are the absolute top priorities, though. I'd argue that Hermit is possibly the highest-priority S.Link in the early game, since SP is the main factor in forcing you to leave the dungeon for the day, but you will want to raise and eventually max S.Links on the party members you use the most as quickly as is reasonably possible. Some of your S.Links are tied to jobs and activities that raise stats (Devil raises Courage, Temperance raises Understanding, Tower and Sun raise Expression, and Strength raises Diligence), which is helpful, especially early on, but there are plenty of other ways to raise all of those (especially Courage, which increases from beating bonus dungeon bosses in addition to other mundane activities). Strength, Sun, Hanged Man, and Moon are only available during school days, Temperance, Tower and Devil only during certain nights, and Death only on Sundays, so those will probably take priority over S.Links that are available more often. You also need a high stat just to start the Devil, Moon and Empress S.Links, and one or two maxed stats to start the Fortune and Tower S.Links, so you might not have much time to actually raise those links up very high if you've been neglecting certain stats. (Some other S.Links eventually hit a point where you can't raise the S.Link without increasing or maxing out a stat, but those are the only ones that can't even start without meeting a minimum on a stat.) Likewise, you unlock the Death and Moon S.Links by getting rank 4 in the Devil and Strength S.Links, respectively, so if you've been ignoring those S.Links you might not have much time to work on either of those (especially Death). There's a timetable of when the various S.Links are available here. Hierophant and Justice are both available irregularly and stop being available at all after certain plot events; like Nate said, maxing both of them out by the end of October is probably for the best. Also: playing with the knob machine in the main street uses up your activity for the day. That's never worth spending your time on unless it's raining, you've already beaten the current dungeon boss, and you can't afford (or wouldn't get any stat gains from) eating the bottomless beef bowl in the restaurant.

Personally I did the Poker game and was able to win enough after a few hours to get the top prizes. However I hear the better method is to do the slots and just stick a weight on your controller and leave it for a while. Even with the rumors it requires luck and time to do it though. I personally skipped the Casino in IS because the game is so easy I only needed to get one Persona out of the Velvet Room the entire game.

Yeah, I was able to get by IS with just everyone's default personas, along with their upgraded personas. Though I reached a roadblock now, because Joker Ulala is an annoying fight without any personas that can use earth magic. I ended up with enough coins in the casino to get Styx and the accessory that gives you +20 luck, so I stopped caring about the jackpot. Now my Maya is technically a luck-based character. Also, about the battle atop the sky museum with Tatsuya Sudou, was my party supposed to have been able to beat him? I was doing good for a while, and beat all his demons, but then Old Maid wrecked my poo poo, since I had no idea what it did at the time, and I ended up beating him with Tatsuya. Apparently I'm not under-leveled or anything, so my main party's defeat wasn't an issue, but I was just curious. I also kind of wish the game stopped using "gently caress" so much if it's going to censor it, because it's starting to be a bit distracting.
