ChibiSoma posted:What's good armor to make for fighting Brachy? Been running around in HR Wroggi and beefing it up fairly well. Think I have enough Hard Spheres to get one more full round of upgrades off, if it's even worth doing. Was kinda hoping the Jhen fight would've happened by now, honestly. Get all the mats for the ship and then you get no payoff for it for a long time. That the Urgent quest to get into the 9-star stuff? I found Barioth armour pretty effective with him. Evasion is definitely the way to go, as opposed to blocking his attacks. Not to mention Constitution will help with how much you'll have to roll around to get that green poo poo off you, if need be.

ChibiSoma posted:Brachydios: The developers' way of saying 'gently caress you' to people who use weapons without shields. I brought in 30 healing items, I came out with 1. The amount of parts required for armor and weapons keeps going up. Means if I want either a weapon or god forbid his armor, I'll have to fight him a good dozen or so times. I don't want to fight him a second time! At least not with a Hammer. Might bring a Greatsword in next time so I can at least block. He just has too many instant moves where, no matter where you stand, you're gonna get smashed. Jhen is a 7* quest, it even says so when you make the ship. Brachy's armor is... high risk high reward. You get slime buffs, but that is a cheap ability to just gem in, so the real benefits of the armor come from two skills that increase your damage when the monster enrages and another that increases defense (and can be gemmed for attack bonuses too) when your health is below 40%. They are both really good abilities, but only are really great for skilled players. I would probably skip it and work on different armor set unless you know those two skills are what you want. I made it for the looks and regret it a little bit. Upgraded Wroggi S armor is what I used with a switch axe after finding that I couldn't keep up with a lance. He's a fairly fun fight for me now that I know his moves, but it did take 10+ kills for me to get there.

How the hell do I get a Monster Bone+? It's all I need for my Insecticutters! On that note, what's the deal with Dragon element? I can sort of figure out other resistances based on habitat and abilities, but what sort of stuff is resistant/weak to Dragon? And the lightcrystal/pelagicite/monster fluid weapons look neat, but I don't know if they're any good and 10k is a lot to drop right now.

I think I started getting them from Rathian and up? Somewhere around there. Dragon element is for killing dragons, weirdly enough. The Raths, Ceadeus, and Deviljho are the main monsters I can think of that are weak to it. Most other things don't take much damage from it.

This game is the master of trolling. Whenever I pick up a hunt that has a Rathian or Rathalos, I run around for like 20 minutes before even finding it. Does it purposely avoid you or something?

Put Fluffy Mask on one of the Shakalakas, tap the signal for it, know where the monster is. There's also an armor skill (Psychic, I believe) that gives permanent map marker for the monster.

For gunner I have a Bandit Fire but the deviation to the left is killing me. Going for Insecticutters, but maybe I should go for a different DS. I really want a good hammer or lance/gunlance, any recommendations? There's too many options and they all look cool!

Is it worth grinding the Bnahabra set for a gunner? Trying to get the carapices and such seems to be a bit of a pain in the rear end. Also I wish I'd know getting Sap Plants was such a pain or I would've thrown them in the farm instead of just using the one I had for a bomb casing.

Here's a tip for new hunters: Dash Juice. The description says it'll let you run without tiring, but what you may not realize is that it does this by giving you infinite stamina for the duration of its effect. So grab your Dual Blades, chug some Dash Juice, and Demonize with impunity!

Lack of patience is part of why I can't use weapons with shields. It's so boring standing around waiting to block attacks. I'd rather dance around the monster and get in large/quick attacks then rush off before they can hit me. Duramboros is like that for me. And then I'll commit to a three-hit combo or start charging and that's when he decides to duck back and ram me or something. The fact that he's a walking mountain of HP doesn't help. I know his weaknesses - fire, his camel humps, hitting his legs while he's twirling to knock him over - but none of that matters if I get impatient and try attacking when I shouldn't. Under the best circumstances it's still a good 15-20 minute fight that can best be summed up with one word: Tedium. He's not a difficult monster by any means, but he's got so much health and his attacks are so big and slow that my usual rushdown strategy isn't very effective on him. I really hope the quest for killing 2 at once isn't require to advance, because I'm gonna need far better weapons than I currently have to handle that one. Also? Can't see what the hell I'm doing when I'm standing under him because my screen's filled with stupid ballerina-wyvern hair.

I own a 3DS but not a WiiU and I've never played a Monster Hunter game, would Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate be a decent introduction to the series? Are there any serious differences between the 3DS and WiiU versions? If the WiiU version has more content I might just hold off until I have one.

Both versions are essentially the same. The main difference is that the Wii U version can play multiplayer online natively, at the cost of not being portable, while the 3DS version only supports local multiplayer and online if you use the packet relay tool that you can install on your Wii U.

So note to everyone: the Diablos low-rank set is great. Do NOT bother crafting it. It requires one of the few really bullshit low-rank drops, the Majestic horn, whichi s an 8% chance off a break of his horn. I just got mine, and it took me literally 19 kills to get it. Fuuuuuuuuck.

Did you break his horns every time? fe: Now I remember, the Majestic horns were lower drop rate at low rank. At HR the ratios are 6-twisted:4-majestic and it even goes up to 55% drop rate at G-rank. Looks like the rare one at G-rank has a 5% drop rate though...

Is the switch axe as awesome as it seems? I switched from the hammer to it and it has dropped my kill times considerably. It just seems like I can constantly be in the monster's face whereas with the hammer I was always chasing the monster around. It also seems like it gives more spots to dodge out of a combo, but that could just be the fact that it is a faster weapon.
