Amon Amarth is unveiling new album artwork today on Reddit. I bet it's solid, fluorescent orange, and it's called The Beard Album. I got a mental image of a ship full of grim, bloody Vikings rowing away from a freshly sacked, burning village. A bloody battlefield aftermath would be sweet, too. Maybe these were already done. AA album covers just blur together.

Im sick to death of "viking" metal. Same old poo poo like AC/DC repeating the same riffs and motifs. Was at Paganfest last night and you could replace every band (except Trollfest who own) and you wouldn't be able to tell the difference "This next song is "Honor Thy Valkyrie"" *yawn*

Ensiferum and Tyr have been going downhill fast since their first few releases, I don't really expect anything worthwhile from either of them any more. Speaking of music that has run its course, Amorphis' new album is now floating around on the internet. velvet milkman fucked around with this message at 18:01 on Apr 12, 2013 |

I've been listening to a lot of Metsatoll lately. They use their folky instruments in a more coherent way than, say, Korpiklaani, and their singer has one of the coolest (and deepest) voices I've ever heard. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_d_ajcuuE0 Do you guys have any recommendations for other folk metal bands with deeper voices?

I have listened to that King Parrot record probably a dozen times since I've gotten it, and can't see myself stopping. It's got all the elements - crazy blastbeats, great riffs, groovy tempo changes, excellent vocals. Love it. I got way behind on this thread so sorry to bring this back up but all watching that King Parrot video you posted did to me was make me want to turn you on to some peak Soilent Green. Their best album is nearly 15 years old at this point and remains one of the most brutal things I've ever heard. The lyrics are extremely disturbing and their vocalist (who also fronts Goatwhore) sells them like the nightmares they are.
