Am I the only one who finds all of Sonata Arctica's stuff except Unia and Stones Grow Her Name to be, for the most part, exceptionally boring? Other than a handful of songs they mostly just kind of run together in a mushy blend of synthesizer and wolf lyrics for me.

As far as Imaginaerum goes I was pleasantly surprised with some of it but only in the sense that the best Nightwish songs are the ones that don't sound like Nightwish songs (and aren't the same three metaphors for how deep and tortured Tuomas is reiterated over and over again).

Can't wait to see the movie though :allears:

I am not sure if this is the right thread, but eh.

When I found out Iron Maiden is actually touring within a reasonable driving distance from me (6 hours), I squealed like a schoolgirl.
If anyone is familiar with the Kansas City Sprint center, anything I should know in particular? I plan on dropping money on some good spots soon as tickets become buyable.
I'm in Arkansas and pretty much as a rule, no good bands come within 4 hours of here, let alone any metal ones. This would be my first major metal concert and I am not really sure what to expect.

Now, if I could only score a backstage pass to this concert and Manowar, I can die a happy man.

Rule 1: If at all possible, buy standing-up tickets rather than sitting-down tickets. You want to see Maiden standing on your own two goddamn feet. (Assuming you have two goddamn feet, of course). It's going to be a sweaty experience so dress accordingly.

Maiden are pretty well known for always putting on a good show and in my experience the crowd is usually quite good-natured. I've seen them three times this side of THE YEAR 2000 and each time it's been a pretty thorough mix of original-generation fans and younger people -- quite a lot of father/son teams, in fact.

(currently pump to AA, Insomnium, Meshuggah, Hypocrisy, Mors Principium Est, Loomis, basically a lot of generic melodeath and thrash, and also Kvelertak, Black Breath, and the like)

Bolt Thrower. How the gently caress did I miss them. This is exactly why I asked.

Nevermore will fit in nicely too. I tend to stick with the more generic melodeath stuff during workouts because I'm starting to work out with some other guys who listen to the usual heavy radio rock (or whatever) but keep asking me to put more of my stuff on, so that stuff is usually the biggest hit.

That said though, I don't work out because I'm a lazy gently caress and allergic to physical exertion, but I'd say Grave Digger is the kind of stuff I might include on my workout playlist if I were to have one. I know it's not exactly in line with the suggestions so far, though.

:):respek::) proud to say much of this is in my playlist, but Vader, EoS, HoP, and Ouroboros will make nice additions. Much of the recommendations are in other playlists but not all of it is appropriate for swolin'.

Other stuff I pump to is Striker (love that album), Death Angel, Inter Arma, Skyfall, Allegaeon, Arsis, Symphony X, Sylosis....

I think a main thing that separates swole mix from normal listening is that in normal listening I tend to go for more proggy / experimental / black metal and other stuff (just a few random examples: Leprous, Ihsahn, Klabautamann, or even Ufomammut, Ulver, and the likes) that doesn't pump me up the way typical melodeath does, and I tend not to listen to typical melodeath during normal listening, so it tends to be largely ignored for the most part. For example I haven't listened to Hypocrisy forever until I was looking for more swole jams, and now they're a major part of my swole playlist.

Jesus christ you didnt have any Vader at all? Get XXV and Welcome to the Morbid Reich, and ESPECIALLY The Art of War immediately. Those 3 are absolutely essential. Necropolis and Impressions in Blood are also sick. Their earlier albums are also pretty swole, but for XXV they rerecorded a lot of their old stuff and it sounds a lot less sloppy and better produced.

Goatwhore is great driving music. Blood for the Master is just a dense little bundle of riffs. It's got fairly clean production, but it's still got a pretty sweet guitar tone. I hope I get another chance to see them live, the last time was years ago and they were just supporting Exodus.
