What the gently caress Daniel left Yuck? That's not the kind of news I like to hear. Their self-titled was on repeat endlessly for me last summer so I'm real sad to hear it. Anyway, here's some poo poo I've been digging since I posted here last. The Thermals - Born To Kill https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLlonHZP9Fk Now We Can See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJu611UdfxA I've never heard of these guys before but I love the energy of their songs. Their lyrics are a little curious and I'm guessing 'Born To Kill' has some kind of religious meaning behind it. Regardless, they make some catchy as hell songs that are perfect for summer Born Ruffians - Needle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQGoLBqgNVM I'm sure there are fans of Born Ruffians here, but I just listened to their recent album and it's kind of blowing me away. This song in particular, 'Needle' gives me the tingles. The way it progresses into this really groovy foot stomper with little drum, guitar, and keyboard subtleties contrasts well with the alternating sparseness. This song is loving brilliant. FIDLAR - Gimmie Something https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US_dyNEOmm8 These guys have been getting their tracks played on Sirius XMU here and there. Their entire self-titled from February is awesome. Songs like 'Cheap Beer' and 'Stoked and Broke' give this angsty, "hardcore" feel, but 'Gimmie Something' and '5 to 9' are really smooth and melodic. The entire album is tight and good at what it's supposed to be, which is the music of and for bastard L.A. kids making bad life choices. The Soft Pack - Tallboy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPjK_TNaac8 I'm a sucker for synths and smooth melodies. Palma Violets - Best of Friends https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poFXWUTEs1k I guess lo-fi, distant vocals are making a come back. Love the drums in this track. Fitz and the Tantrums - Out Of My League https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZm51YTAFiE Beautiful song. The band's guitarless, but they more than make up for it. Heard a live session with these guys and they seem really down to earth and kind too. Good stuff. French Films - All The Time You Got https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPM02tQGTuY I loved this band's previous album 'Imaginary Future'. It's pretty run of the mill upbeat rock with synths thrown in here and there. Their new release 'White Orchid' isn't as good, but it's still got some solid tracks. This one is my favorite so far. If you like it definitely check out their last release. Here are a couple tracks from 'Imaginary Future' that really got me into these guys. Golden Sea - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HrysKg1te0 Convict - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViO_hZV4epo Gonna definitely shout out that the new Vampire Weekend album is great and so is Local Native's new release. I never could really get into Local Natives but Hummingbird is so god drat good. The music video for 'Heavy Feet' made my heart sink a little :/ Phoenix's Bankrupt! is stellar, but I'm gonna have to agree that Dinosaur Jr.'s cover of 'Entertainment' just might be better than the original. Other than that, Surfer Blood's single 'Demon Dance' has got me stoked for their new release coming up too. It's gonna be a great summer. guppiehaus fucked around with this message at 07:07 on May 19, 2013 |

I could barely make it through Clash The Truth.. I thought it sucked. I met them once after they played my college's free spring concert held every year (At a bar the other band they were touring with played at later that evening) and got the elitist vibe from them quiet a bit. (The DIIV and Heavenly Beat guys were still in the band and there as well.) Also, anyone who invalidates the opinion of other's in that manner is one huge tool. The part about making an "honest living" touring across the world was a joke too. He acts like it isn't loving awesome doing such, just stupid.

A while back somebody posted about an Australian indie-pop-whatever group named Alpine, the group responsible for this video that resembles what I'd imagine an American Apparel work retreat to be like Anyway, their LP A is for Alpine was released stateside this week. It's a decent listen if you're into that sort of thing. Also, I don't think anyone has mentioned Mikal Cronin yet — normally I wouldn't gravitate toward someone with "Ty Segall collaborator" as a description, but his new album, MCII, is full of solid, straightforward rock music. I saw Washed Out like...2 years ago? And they were just okay. I really dig the albums, but yeah, seeing 'em live is a pretty different experience than just listening to the albums, which I normally like when bands do that, but it didn't work out that well in this case. Thinking back on it, it was a pretty forgettable show.

Alright, so hopefully I am not committing and cardinal sins with this one. I did a quick forum search for this band's unique moniker and didn't find anything so hopefully it's somewhat new to people. French? Check. Indie? They don't even have a wikipedia page. Deceptive name pronunciation? Roger. The Aikiu (pronounced eye-que) is a French new-wave band I heard about a few months back. They had a semi-infamous video for the song 'Pieces of Gold' that was interspliced with shots from gay porn. Fast forward to a few days ago when I check out their website and saw they had an album coming out in June. I liked their first song so I checked out the new single and love it. So here is a bit of their stuff, with an album Ghost Youth coming out June 17th. Oh gently caress yeah, finally! And they won't just be sheet music? That single's pretty cool. If the rest of the album is akin to this, it's going to be pretty experimental and different than Modern Guilt. Which is cool, because I really dig his more experimental stuff. I also really dug Modern Guilt, but it's been long enough that I want to hear something different from him, and that single proves that I will.
