The best ways to stop raredrafting are to either redraft all the rares at the end of the draft or to draft with someone else's packs who is keeping all the cards. I'm actually kinda curious what the top end price for chase legendary cards will be. Between boosters that are half the price of magic boosters, primal packs, and all the free packs the free drafters will be opening, it should be way easier to buy into a top tier deck.

I'm going to go ahead and say this. I will rare draft if I consider the cost-benefit analysis to be in my favor. IE if the rare is worth 3 boosters, winning the tournament will get me 4 boosters, and there is less than a 75% chance in my mind that I will win, then yes I will draft that rare. I would expect most people at my skill level to do the same.

I want to win, but I'm realistic about my chances and I'll take a chase rare if it nets me a good turnaround. That said, I'll try to build a deck around that rare or leave it out if I need to.

Besides some of those big money cards are probably worth splashing for anyway even if it doesn't fit your deck. Can't imagine I'd leave goyf out of any deck I draft.

Even if you have fifty guys you're still going to have rivalries. Two people of relatively equal skill playing similar decks for example are always going to be rivals because they're always going to try to come out over the other. Yes, those two I mentioned were the lovely kind, but rivalry doesn't necessarily mean bitter or bad. Rivalries are always going to be a good thing, as it pushes both players to be better and helps drive interest. I don't know what kinds of players we're going to have in the goon guild, but I would be outright shocked if we don't have similar situations crop up as people start playing constructed matches against each other.

Captain Capitalism posted:Speaking of resources, I'm sure we'll see some nonbasic ones. I'm thinking the most likely is a 0/1 resource that gives two types of threshold, since it acts like a land coming into play tapped. Other things that would be neat is an 0/2 resource that doesn't give threshold or a resource that charges twice. If you check the Auction House image on their Kickstarter page, you can see about half of a non-basic resource. So, yes, it's pretty much confirmed that they will exist. It looks like it's a 1/1 resource that doesn't give thresholds but does give extra charges, but the important parts of the text are obscured so it's hard to tell for sure. I'd expect them to be pretty equivalent to the ones we've already seen in videos, which IIRC were [3/3] for a 3/1 haste that dies at end of turn or [3/3] for a 1/1 bunny. So it will dull the pain of getting flooded a little bit, but you're not likely going to want to cast them very often when you have cards in hand that you can cast instead.

I think you just choose a basic champion with one charge power, that's it. No talents or equipment. I think we've only seen different charge powers (such as "create a Battle Hopper"), but I guess starting life could vary, too. Everyone will start with every PvP champion, so it's just a matter of choosing one that supports your deck.

I thought that one was that you have to get four charges to use it, but given that it's a charge ability, it only costs the 2 life, not 2 life and 2 mana. "{2}: Draw a card, lose 2 life" is Pact of Pain's ability. There's also one where, for every two charges you get, you can drain 1 life from an opponent. I think that's pretty cool, myself, and it would be nice to have a good ability that can be used with relative frequency, but I suppose that's not as plainly good as the draw one since the draw only costs life.

Last time I played MTG, Slivers were a big thing, and I cannot imagine building a deck around nothing but rares for that. How will Hex replicate this phenomenon? If they want to keep pace with their leading competitor, these are the things they will have to plan for. Cardboard Smell is only the beginning.

I'll honestly be really irritated if rares and legendaries contain poo poo you'd want 4 of just to be low cost blockers. Looking through the database there are only a few legendaries I could see being 4-of's in a deck, many are unique which makes playing 4 of them a dicey choice. There are, however, a good number of rares that I could see being generic 4-of's in decks built around them, or in some cases any deck of their color. If you're going to play constructed, I wouldn't be surprised to find ~30% of a competitive deck being comprised of rares. That ratio will go up drastically if they follow Magic's example and make their good multi-color resources rare. Right now in competitive magic one of the most expensive parts of acquiring a competitive deck is the mana base, especially in the eternal formats, so while I'm hoping they make them uncommon in Hex, I wouldn't be surprised if they followed Magic's example.
