Well, they're a British company, and unless you're in the US, the game doesn't release until the 12th, so its no surprise they don't have keys yet. In a normal world people would be saying GMG, Amazon and Gamersgate are pretty lame for not sending the keys on time but no one is saying that. It's just "lol look at these posts on these forums." Oh I'm not disputing that if they're legit late delivering keys, that's pretty lame. But screaming and hollering and "I'LL NEVER SHOP HERE AGAIN" "I'M GONNA HAVE MY BANK DO A CHARGEBACK BECAUSE I'VE BEEN ROBBED!" seems a bit disproportionate; at least until they've tried more reasonable channels of resolution like contacting GMG support, perhaps 2K support, etc. jivjov fucked around with this message at 06:32 on Jul 9, 2013 |

Corporations take a lot of (entirely justified) heat from Americans literally all the time. Maybe not in the context of this specific release of a videogame, but I'd say businesses get more flak than "those wacky customers" ever do. Some poor bastard at the Better Business Bureau probably has to sort through reams and reams every day, and that's just people who specifically went out of their way to actually lodge a formal complaint. Anyway Civ 5 everybody

I'm just a little bit annoyed that I'd rather be playing the game now than later. But I can take it. I remembered when I ordered the boxed G&K at launch on Amazon with same-day-shipping. I didn't get it until that evening, though the case itself looked nice and had a fold-out tech tree.

RagnarokAngel posted:Nobody is "dropping the ball". Steam very often doesnt release games until noon Pacfic time, this is an exception rather than a rule, and many companies dont email their keys out at Midnight Eastern time. This is being very presumptious and they haven't voided their agreement until it's 12:00 on the 10th. I'm assuming that Steam isn't acting as a key broker - they'll generate keys and handle their redemption (and manage sales to individual consumers), but it's 2K who requests additional keys for wholesale to third party distributors. Therefore, the responsibility lies on 2K to ensure that the keys they requested for resale are delivered. If somehow Steam is acting as the broker (which seems like a bad idea from multiple standpoints to me), then it's still not GMG's fault, it's Steam's fault for not delivering keys in preparation for when the game goes live (unless it's 2K's fault again for not specifying to send it to resellers a little early). If somehow the keys have already been sent but simply not processed to allow sending to customers, then I wonder what the hell is going on that multiple companies whose entire business revolves around reselling digital products and their associated keys cannot automate the process and have it done within the hour. Maybe one company hosed up, but Occam's Razor says the problem is elsewhere when it's two or three.

But overall it shows an example of why Steam is the best platform and that these other companies will probably lose a few customers over this. Maybe it's a Gaben trick to rule PC gaming...

Again, stop assuming the release date will be the 12th. There were big banners advertising the 9th release date. It is in fact, still the 9th. It is barely 2 hours into the 9th. If you live on the west coast it isn't even the 9th. The fact that their website is bugged and has a blank release date doesn't confirm or deny anything. This chicken little stuff is maddening.

The point at which I realized that midnight releases were rather pointless was the time I drove an hour to my hometown Gamestop to pick up Halo 4 and by the time I got it back to my college dorm I barely wanted to play longer than 10 minutes before hitting the sack.

I don't know if this is common knowledge yet, but a lot of the founder beliefs took a nerf. Ceremonial Burial is 1 happiness for every two cities following the religion. e: also you can see Iron at Bronze Working now and Lighthouses give +1 production per sea resource. Lots of neat changes to the early game, it seems. e2: I'm dumb, Tithe is the same as it was, but Ceremonial Burial is changed. fantastic in plastic fucked around with this message at 07:23 on Jul 9, 2013 |
