Well that's still kinda dumb that it showed the 9th despite you not being in the US so I dunno! Sucks if their automated system is messed up!

Ahaha, literally everyone else in the game but me declared war on Morocco. Cultural victory seems really interesting, in that you have to balance getting shitloads of tourism with devoting resources to breaking civs with more culture than you can easily deal with. Also: Venice is fun as hell, in that you can easily transfer from what is essentially a One-City Challenge into having control over ridiculous amounts of the map, all without shooting anything. e: Holy poo poo, I just realized that Venice gets a Merchant of Venice from Collective Rule. I had the "won't enable DLC" issue, the old deleting the clientregistry.blob trick worked. Then it decided it had to be updated (despite doing it earlier) and would take 27 minutes, but soon after said 0 seconds. Great!

Not doing so well in my game, I've lost out on a bunch of key tourism wonders. Buildings with multiple slots are a huge loving deal, especially for Napoleon. I rushed to a great Petra location, only to discover that Petra isn't as great as it used to be. I also missed out on a religion, simply because there is so, so much poo poo to deal with at the beginning of the game now. Trade routes seem like kind of a pain in the rear end. I have no idea how to protect them, they constantly get sacked, and I can't seem to be able to figure out how to plunder enemy routes. They give enormous amounts of money though, especially if you cluster them all in one city with the appropriate wonders/buildings. Still streaming at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/civ-5-bnw-goonstream I'm in the 1600s, Pocatello has built the World Council and my tourism is starting to ramp up. Still no idea if I've got a shot or not though. emTme3 fucked around with this message at 09:17 on Jul 9, 2013 |

AI still sucks, doesn't contact you ever and will never let you get a declaration of friendship (doesn't make them with other AI either). Laggy as poo poo and barbarians go after AI turns, so you make a move and then the barbarian appears out of nowhere. Either buggy or badly designed. Do not buy this expansion for multiplayer because they don't give a poo poo.

Not for me. GMG is very helpfully telling me that there are "no keys available for this game". Should I be worried?

Got my key as well. There's a post from someone who seems to be on the GMG staff:quote:Hi all - keys are currently being sent out for Civ V: Brave New World in North America. We did not receive clearance to send these from the publisher before it was opened up for download on Steam. We have to wait for publisher clearance and in this instance we sadly did not hear from them in time. We'd like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by this, and rest assured keys are going out now.

What are good social policies for Venice? If they can get two free merchants from Liberty, that seems like a no-brainer to me. Also, do the Zulus basically just make Germany obsolete?

I assume as someone in the UK I've got no choice but to wait until the 12th because even if I get keys earlier it'll be locked on steam anyway? What the hell is the deal with this region delay anyway?

Gort posted:What are good social policies for Venice? If they can get two free merchants from Liberty, that seems like a no-brainer to me. I wouldn't say Germany's obsolete...quite. It's close though, and now that I'm thinking of the question it's a lot closer than I thought. Germany can still out-produce their absurdly cheap unique pikemen that are still cheaper than Shaka's. However Shaka's Impi are so absurdly powerful it really doesn't matter that much and that's not even counting the Buffalo upgrades that the Ikhanda gives. For reference, a pre-gunpowder melee unit built at an Ikhanda receives "Buffalo Horns" for free which is +1 movement, +10% strength on plains, +10% defense against ranged and +25% to flanking. Having "Horns" also unlocks the ability to get "chest" and "loins" which give the same combat bonuses (but not the movement) as the first one.

Just finished a culture victory as Poland on emperor. Played on large islands, didn't even sniff a war and only built 3 cities. Poland's UA is incredibly powerful, like I thought. I was dipping into a fourth tree before I had unlocked ideologies. I think I got a good start with luxes that provided money because I was rich as hell pretty much the entire game, even without trade routes. I had wine, gold, gems around my cap and some more wines/marble on my island. I used my trade routes to give food. It's absurd. Late game one of my cities had +26 food from trade routes. Even at 40 pop they still grew every 3-4 turns. Rationalism was made stronger because of how many specialists you end up getting with the insane tall empires you can make now and the shitload of artist/writer/musician slots you get. Poland's UA lets you get off the ground pretty drat quick and it will make it super easy to open up tradition and liberty and head into rationalism.

I sent in a customer support thing per the supposed forum rep's suggestion and first got an email saying "You should have it, are you sure you know how to find it? " and then "We're sending them out now, just keep checking." If they later try to tell me I have to wait until the twelfth I will pull the old "I'm a dual citizen! I paid in American dollars! I didn't fight for your freedom just for you to treat me like no ferner! " which in similar situations has always worked.

So I tried the VPN trick. The game downloaded just fine, BNW is showing up on DLC list, it did the first time setup but when I enter the game it's still G&K. Offline mode didn't work either.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time thinking of a parallel (Although, admittedly, I am not an expert) in some other business where one organization puts arbitrary limits on another so that a third will be marginally less unsuccessful.

Considering how terribly PC has been treated by brick 'n' mortar in the last decade or so (even before digital took over), I'm surprised they give a poo poo if they're not given the red carpet treatment with a PC exclusive expansion pack. It's not like they'll have more than two copies (if any) on their shelves anyway.

Well all of digital media works that way, so music and movies get affected. It has something to do with when each country starts it's sales records. The big organization in the US starts count on tuesday so everyone (but Nintendo) releases on tuesday to get the maximum sales records. I think the EU does something similar starting Friday but I don't know for sure.

Shoshone are loving awesome, your initial warrior is the scout who can pick to grab up citizens and free techs left and right. Basically you don't need to pick between building a warrior or a scout anymore, you get something like 20 turns of tech advantage off the bat, plus free people. Snowball early, snowball hard.

So here's something weird: When I fire up the game, it loads as G&K. However BNW shows up in the in-game DLC menu but it is disabled. When I enable it, it reverts back to disabled after I quit the DLC menu. Is there a way to manually enable DLC's from the game files?
