Couple observations: -Fish are the single best resource in the entire game, especially when fully upgraded. -Jungle tiles loving suck until/unless you get Sacred Path and/or Universities. And I really wish building Plantations on jungle resources didn't chop down the jungle. I grabbed Sacred Path as Brazil, and not only can I not build Brazilwood Camps on Bananas, but building plantations on bananas is just +1 food and isn't really worth the -1 culture. -I still have no idea how the hell this theming system works and I have like a dozen and half again Great Works.

Hahahaha. I got the "Tear Down This Wall!" achievement for forcing Mongolia to convert from Order to Freedom. I had a lot of influence over them, and after Genghis conquered everything on his continent he suddenly had no income. He had to delete quite a lot of his army, I could probably have destroyed him utterly if I felt like it--and I was only with three cities as Venice! I appreciate that culture is now not bound to Freedom, but any of the three possible big ideologies.

I forget what the penalties are for hitting negative gold, but I think it's both a happiness dent and a science dent? Anyway: If this were Gods And Kings, Genghis would have been a runaway civ, but thanks to the congress and so on we were able to keep him in check.

I have Louvre, Broadway, Hermitage, Oxford & Sistine Chapel, all of them fully curated. I did it last night, but it took until the 2000s and I had to kill the last guy (Morocco) because he had so much culture. I don't know if I can give you any tips. Get every single multi-slot building you can get in your capital and be France. It seems like there's just too much defensive culture flying around right now to be able to win solely via tourism, although high tourism makes you absurdly powerful in other arenas. Oh yeah, winning the International Games doubles your tourism for 20 turns, pretty big deal once you've got all the big wonders. emTme3 fucked around with this message at 03:30 on Jul 10, 2013 |

Yeah, I wasn't running away by any means, but I was the point leader by a slight margin for having capped the Maya and Ottoman capitals. Hilariously, Caesar didn't even have any negative diplo factors with me, since this had all gone down before he ever met Suleiman (and Pacal had been eliminated long before; Suleiman capped Pacal's last city and razed it). We even had "we denounced the same leaders!" since I'd denounced Suleiman (he kept sneak attacking me and Maria I) and he had too. But nope, raging hateboner for the Zulu, apparently. Fucker.

Assyria does get its tech steal for cities that it receives as part of a peace treaty. I'm not sure if that's intended or a bug, but it's a nice incentive to end a war without having to reduce your tech pinata down to one city first. Also, the XP bonus from a Royal Library with a Great Book in it is equivalent to a Barracks, so you can pump out some early soldiers who have learned how to kill by reading Aesop's Fables. I wish I could keep building siege towers even after I've got Physics.

Finished first BNW game as Indonesia, king difficulty. Probably could of went for a domination victory much earlier but wanted to do a cultural victory. Screenshots from before last civ becomes influenced. Indonesias UU is quite awesome but requires iron. http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/633037656651374923/D4926DBDD0BA75B348164432AC111E3013A71259/ Kiev, which started as a city-state became the cultural center of the planet. http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/633037656651377491/025CB2A3A442BD832CFFBA8FC0B7660308E7DF13/ I didn't have open borders with anyone other than Attila, so tourism took way longer to spread.

DEO3 posted:I got a $30 credit toward any digital 2K Games game on Amazon back when I pre-ordered Bioshock Infinite, but it's not being applied to Brave New World, and the lady in chat wasn't able to help me, and so she's forwarded the issue to the promotions department, and said it might take a couple of days for them to figure out the issue, and now I'm sad. Trip report: The promotions department finally got back to me with an email saying Brave New World isn't eligible for the promotion, and then sent me a link to games that were eligible... a link that simply brought me to a page of games published by 2K. And what do I see staring me in the face on that very page? Civilization V: Brave New World. Fed up with getting the run around I gave them a call, and the woman on the phone told me that the reason the credit wasn't applying was because it only applies to games that had been published by 2K at the time I got the credit and that it doesn't apply to anything published by them since. The logic being that anything published after I got the credit would've been considered a pre-order at the time, and that the credit isn't eligible for pre-orders. I even read to her the exact wording of the promotion since there's nothing there that would make you think it wouldn't work for Brave New World: quote:Your purchase entitles you to a $30 credit good towards 2K Digital Video Games on Amazon.com excluding pre-orders and the Bioshock Season Pass. To redeem your credit visit: http://www.amazon.com/Game-Downloads...node=979455011 Purchase the 2K product of your choice, and the credit will be automatically applied. And noted that the link in the promotion actually takes me to a page, again, showing Brave New World! She said they're taking a very firm stand on the issue and wouldn't budge. So basically, gently caress Amazon and their deceptive promotion. I've since purchased the game elsewhere.

I think the inability to acquire new works except through Great People or conquest is supposed to be a balancing factor, otherwise it becomes a little too easy to control tourism. And given how frequent tech steals are.... well, I don't think players are going to enjoy having their themed bonuses constantly wrecked and chances of cultural victory ruined because the AI has money to throw around.

Poland rushed it early and so I just traded with them until my gigantic capital could pump out enough toy soldiers a turn to overwhelm them, and I was looking forward to researching Dynamite, then I finally get it, and I'm still having the time of my life slogging through his territory one tile at a time. Boudicca has been pissing me off all game. Sniping wonders from me left and right so after ganking Notre Dame from with one turn left I decided I had enough of this garbage. So while she's up north fighting a stalemate war with Greece I'm taking advantage of the fact her Capitol with all those fancy wonders backs up to an uninhabited perfectly flat peninsula by embarking about 20 top of the line units and 5 brand new frigates to form the first army of "gently caress you I'm rolling through and busting all your stuff". Glad all the gold I've been hoarding is paying off.

Probably because it's a flag attached to the building itself where the effect gets obsoleted by the technology which gets absurd if it's "the first time a civ researches this tech it is obsolete." Also all siege weapons should work like siege towers, this bombardment system is baloney.
