Pretty poor episode I thought. Reggie is great for the TV show and great inventing songs and great live but he just has nothing to offer on the podcast except mispronouncing or corrupting the occasional word. Neil seemed a bit out of rhythm too, except, ironically, during the rap battle. I think Scott knew it was pretty weak since he called it lackadaisical, too.

This episode did introduce the phrase "suckin up groins," which seems bound to become part of the national lexicon.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed by the episode until Neil's second rap was The Funniest Thing Ever. That and the alternating disgusted/intrigued "that sounds like a regular Craster's Keep" is all I needed from a bonus ep

I think given the date mixups in the episode its pretty clear they recorded that during production of the show to have to release before the premeay. There werent really any characters and it was just them shooting the poo poo, so I don't think its fair to hold it up to a normal episode. There was enough funny in there and of course Regi's songs that I think it was alright. Plus the atmosphere is always very good when Scott is with 2 people he really likes, and its clear he finds Neil's humor 100% amusing. I do too for that matter. It also had the misfortune of being posted the same week as a Ben Schwaz and Werner Herzog episode, which combines Scott's love for the 2 guests with actual CBB stylings which equals great episode. Edit: Neil's constant ASOIF references kill me

Do people actually like the TV show? I started listening to CBB a few months ago with my gf on road trips so when we saw the TV show was on at someone's house we decided to watch... It was pretty bad. I laughed maybe twice in the 2 episodes I saw.

This may come off as glib, but I believe also that Reggie Watts is the the musical co-host of the TV show and that many of its guests are comedians that specialise in improvisational comedy.

It's also not helped by the fact that another anarchic fake talk show in The Eric Andre Show premiered around the same time and it's the funniest thing in years. Seriously, watch that show.

According to Stop Clockerman, the interview portions are (mostly) improv.

Yeah, but something about the editing or the performance doesn't let that come through. The show needs to loosen up a little - it feels like it's suffocating its jokes. I bet it would be way funnier to listen in on the writers' room than to watch the show. EDIT: except for Reggie's sketches. That guy has presence.

I feel weird when people cite the number of times they laughed as a measure of a show's quality. It's as if a show has to break a 74.99 centi-LOL average to be considered funny. I listen to the podcast at work, and I rarely laugh out loud, but I always enjoy the show.

Speaking of the podcast, solid one today that got weird real fast. I generally don't like the Giamatti stuff that much but it got ridiculous so fast I had to appreciate it. A Jesse Ventura appearance is always big time too.

The show is funny but its way too short. They try to take like 2 hours of improv and cram it into 20 minutes and also throw some skits in there too. They get started on some tangent or someone says something funny then its cut to commercial. It doesnt work as well because their whole style of comedy is based on the slow burn. Season 2 seems to have fixed the pacing a lot just based on the 1 episode ive seen though

NotWearingPants posted:But watch a few more episodes and maybe it will grow on you. The CBB podcast is one of my favourite things in the world and I was skeptical about the TV show before season 1 because I couldn't see how it would translate into 22 minute episodes. I was underwhelmed by the first couple of episodes, but the more I watched the more I started to 'get' the tone of the show and accept that it's not the podcast and it's not really trying to be a TV version of the podcast. Sure, a lot of the same performers and characters are involved, but it's a different thing entirely. I've probably watched the whole first season 4-5 times since it aired and it's loving awesome.

I think the combination of Scott Aukerman and Neil Campbell makes for a very silly show. I can see some people not really liking that kind of humor. But if you think you can come to my house and force me to drink bleach just because I like the CBB tv show, then I just have one thing to say to you: ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Nemo posted:I feel weird when people cite the number of times they laughed as a measure of a show's quality. It's as if a show has to break a 74.99 centi-LOL average to be considered funny. It's weird to me too. I tend to laugh the most when I'm nervous or talking to someone I like, so if we're using laughter as a metric of humor then apparently the funniest thing in the world to me is talking to someone I have a crush on. Also I tend to laugh more at really stupid jokes than quality jokes, even though I find the latter more enjoyable.

The TV show is a half-hour sketch show that pretends it's a talk show. The podcast is 90 minutes of improv insanity. Maybe it's just me, but for me if you don't expect both of these things to be the same they're both funny and great and stuff.

B-B-B-BONUS-S-S-S CBB today! It's the live Comic-Con episode Scott has been hyping for weeks. They just recorded it last night, so I certainly wasn't expecting to hear it so soon. Avoid reading the names of the guests if you can, because the moment when the first character shows up is a fantastic surprise.
